You know people who earn a good wage and i know people who dont (in trades) and yes we have to try harder but when you get near your 50s you hope to be sorted. maybe our own fault but we still had a better standard of living in UK. I dont think it hurts to suggest to people to research before they get to Canada so they can live here happily.

Re: Disillusionment creeping in.
Thank you all for all of your replies, many of which reflect similar predicaments to which I find myself in relating to education (kids and my own), moving house and the timing of relocating within the uk as a secondary option.
I know for those of you that waited years it may appear very impatient but the actual wait time is not my gripe. Everyone has an idea (if they have done due diligence) of how long their type of application will take when they set out on this journey. What no one can really predict or prepare you for is the actual affect waiting 6/12/36/48 months will have on any one person under their particular circumstances. I totally agree with everyone's comments on the need to get on with your life and we are indeed doing this. However, the effort needed to make some decisions that would have otherwise been no-brainers sometimes gets wearing especially when the responsibility for them weighs heavy (I'm thinking daughters critical age education here) and sometimes the simplest and easiest answer seems to be to stay here, though this is definately what we don't want. I am always mindful however that this strife is there because we have options and potential opportunities that others possibly don't and we are really lucky in that respect. |

I understand disillusionment is not a nice condition but I couldn’t see anywhere in this tread explaining why you want to come and live in Canada in the first place.

Re: Disillusionment creeping in.
We are in a similar situation in that we feel like our lives are on hold! My OH got his job offer back in May, the company suggested the PNP route as it would be quicker and we could land with Nomination - they had done it with at least 7 people prior to us and most had taken around 3/4 mths to get their nom letters! This was of course prior to June 26th!
So we started the ball rolling sent the paperwork off and put the house on the market - we sold the house in mid Sept (still with no PNP) put all our belongings in a shipping container - constantly thinking "It wont be long, it wont be long"... We have moved from holiday cottage to holiday cottage 5 times since mid Sept, living out of just one suitcase each (we have 2 daughters) still trying to stay positive, holding on to the fact that at least we sold our house (so many are struggling to sell in the current market). The main thing that we are clinging on to is that in years to come when we are living in Canada, our girls are settled and we are living and breathing everything Canada has to offer, these past months or more will slip into such insignificance and will be a distant memory! Stick with it, we'll get there!! |

Re: Disillusionment creeping in.
It is hard at times and I can see how you can get disillusioned. We are still here in UK - but we have the visa and cant go for other reasons which is frustating. We know we have to at least land before April. I am very impulsive and when I make a decision I like to get on with it, sadly this has not been possible.
I totally agree in terms of kids and no exactly where you are coming from. At the end of the day if we want it bad enough we will all get there in the end  |

I'm not really sure how to take this and I'm not entirely sure it deserves an answer! You don't really explain the circumstances under which you have been forced to live apart during this process and it's therefore difficult to see from what perspective you are seeing this thread. Surely you had some choice? I do however have sympathy with decisions you have to make as they are the kind of things that seem to have dogged our wait. I shan't bother in future. Reasons - take a wild guess! Just like yours - job, money, family, uncertainty of situations on both sides of the pond..... I think you are too tied up in your own issues to sympathise with. |

Dont want to get into this in great detail as its off topic but....
Have you tried it? I thought taking electrical goods was dodgy-different voltages etc. My hairdryer worked like a fairy was farting in my hair this summer...no power whatsoever! Great news if its all OK. http://www.sears.ca/stores/shop/sear...ue&D=hairdryer |

Be thankful for what you have is the key. My OH and I are having to live apart during this process - him working in Canada and me here. At least you can all continue to do what you do and you are together, which is the greatest comfort and the most important thing.
I naturally find it hard to remember why we are doing this because all that has happened for me since we applied is that I have lost my beloved OH of 17 years to the other side of the world! He reassures me regularly that life in Canada is great and we will love it there together, but that is a bit hard for me to see, as you can imagine. I also have to decide whether to renew my contract at work very soon and the timing is rubbish - I need to decide now what the situation will be at Easter and whether to commit myself until the end of July, which is impossible to predict with timescales from the post June 26th rules applications being so uncertain. I just thank my lucky stars that my husband is enjoying Canadian life and work (even if it is without me) that we have Skype, that our app is in and running, that we aren't struggling for money even paying two lots of living expenses and that the timescales for PR are no longer 4 years! I suggest that you do the same and focus on what you have that is good - OK, some decisions might be a little more difficult to call but that is the nature of the beast and we all have to deal with that. It might be little comfort, but it is more than some people have got:) |

Where abouts in Canada are you looking to relocate because we live in BC and we do not have the standard of living we had in the uk. It is really expensive here all depending on the kind of work you do. We thought we would be able to travel across Canada but we have been on one holiday in 5 years of living here!!!I urge people to seriously do your homework. I have met many Brits in the last 5 years who just cant make a living here in BC. Alberta is a bit different as they dont have HST (harmonised sales tax) which is12% on nearly everything you buy.
It amounts to 5 percent more and not 12 percent more than Alb, besides it is a good 8 percent lower than the UK and does not apply to everything. Besides there is a very good chance it may get voted out with the vote next year. Everywhere in the world is hard to make a living at the mo, and yes Canada is no different, but it will always come down to personal situation, There are some of us who are doing rather well you know;) and have a significantly better standard of living than the UK. |

Thank you for agreeing with me that Bc is an expensive place to live. I am glad your daughter is doing great and agree that she would not be able to do that in UK. That is fantastic:)
