Disillusionment creeping in.
 

Hi,

I know our wait hasn't been long compared to some, but in the great scheme of our lives we are finding that life appears to be passing us by while we are waiting for Canada to decide whether they like us or not.

While others are decorating their lounges and planning family holidays etc etc we don't feel able to do any of those things until we have a decision good or bad; our children are in a permanent limbo, although they are dealing with it better than me, and I am thinking life is too short to put it on hold and am now struggling to remember why we decided to do this. I think it is made worse because we will relocate within the UK anyway if Canada don't want us, but in the meantime we are just sitting ducks.

This is not impatience, this is 'is this really worth it?'

Has anyone got so disillusioned with the wait that you were close to changing your mind?

Can't really understand putting ones life on hold for a decision.

We moved house a year before emigrating ( hindsight not such a good move ) but we had to have life continue until we knew.

This isn't a rehearsal so keep living.

Its the not being able to book a summer holiday thats doing my head in. Its what I do when xmas is over. Its also needing a new food processor, but pointless buying it if we move next year. Its the kids wanting wii games from santa and us saying 'wait until we get to Canada cos they wont work there'
I could go on and on, but I wont.
Frustrating....but I'm sure it'll be worth it. Keep the faith!!!;)

We felt like this at first during our wait. Then I thought stuff it and I booked a holiday, actually I booked 2 holidays :thumbsup:

I felt mostly the same way at first, but after a while the limbo feeling passes, especially if you stay realistic, you can keep getting work permits, and trying for PR whilst in Canada for up to 6 years.

Just stay positive, Canada wanting you or not isn't that uncertain, they have a fair and well documented points-based procedure.

Why won't your Wii games work in Canada? Presumbly you're taking your own wii?
Buying a £1 plug adapted would mean you could use your Wii anywhere:thumbsup:

Dont want to get into this in great detail as its off topic but....
Have you tried it? I thought taking electrical goods was dodgy-different voltages etc. My hairdryer worked like a fairy was farting in my hair this summer...no power whatsoever!

I don't think I have explained very well. No, we are not all sat in the arm chair waiting for the postman only moving for food and water ;).

We are living our lives in the respect of everyday things, routines, hobbies etc etc but there are things that are affected by 'the decision' whether you want them to or not. For example, my daughters choice of course next year will be affected by 'the decision'; I cannot book a holiday for next summer because I don't know whether we will be living in this country (this is not a biggie, just another thing). Also other decisions about things like buying furniture, what to do about our knackered car, etc etc are all made more complicated because we are waiting thus the perpetual feeling of being in a state of limbo.

Like I said, probably made worse because we will relocate elsewhere in the UK anyway. Another decision on hold!

Tangram - why did you move 12 months before emigrating. Do you mean sold and bought somewhere else or sold and rented? We have just sold and moved into rented so we are in a position to move at a time of our choosing rather than being at the mercy of the housing market. I wouldn't have bought another house so close to emigrating?!?

Here in Ontario the UK hairdryer won't work but the UK Wii works a treat...as does the UK tv/DVD player...just pack loads of adapters :)

We sold and bought something else, moving for schooling reasons. We moved as we could not predict the future. PR application was submitted in 2005 and we moved in 2006. In 2007 i got a job offer. At the time PR was taking 3-4 years so could not put life on hold with no guarantee of getting PR.

As stated, we could not predict the future and did not know for certain we would get PR and or WP with LMO.

our uk wii wont work and neither will the uk games :(

We brought our Wii over and it works OK. The hairdryer didn't though.

did you just plug in straight into a travel adaptor with the uk adaptor or did you change the settings etc?

You should be worried about this. If you can't even remember why you're making the move to Canada, you should be asking yourself if it's the right thing to do.
