Re: Cost of Living
I did some grocery shopping yesterday. Here are some things from my receipt (note that I didn't buy any cheese because I brought loads with me that will last us until April):
Nescafe coffee (200g) $5.99 (sale)
Ribena (1litre) $10.99
5 small tomatoes $2.24
Vanilla tea (18 tea bags) $3.35 (sale)
Small plain yogourt (170g) $1.32
Liquid soap (225ml) $2.72 (sale)
3 bread rolls $0.75
Dutch (tiger) bread $1.89
Sirloin steak (one small piece) $6.55
Xtra lean ground beef (500g) $4.23
Oranges (800g) $1.77
2 lemons $1.98
Eggplant $1.66
Green lettuce $2.49
1 avocado $1.25
White mushrooms (380g) $2.97
Cucumber $1.99
Peppers (bag of 3 small ones) $2.04
Bottle of white wine (Cono Sur) $11
Bottle of white wine (Casillero del Diablo) $15
We went out for a pub meal 2 days ago. 2 mains, 2 glasses of wine, 3 beers = $75 (this includes tax and tip)
We also went to the pub yesterday. It was wings night ($5 dozen) and a deal on Carlsberg ($5 per pint). Wine was around $8 for a small glass.
As you can see, some everyday things are cheaper, some are more expensive. It equals out.

Re: Cost of Living
But surely that only matters at the outset when bringing/changing money - once landed you`ll be earning $$$$ and then all that matters is how much you can earn versus how much it costs to live in your chosen area/profession?

Oh well, like I said, the people are nice.
I'm developing a theory that the more beautiful the city, the crapper the people. The more craptacular the city, the better the people. In Canada anyway.

Re: Cost of Living
For the OP you really need answers from people who live where you will be going ie Edmonton........... the variance in prices across provinces of most things in Canada is quite staggering and this is even so within provinces.
