So sorry everyone for getting up your backs as someone quite rightly said "you are living it and have first hand experience of life in Canada as an ex pat". Mine is all theory at the moment. In case anyone is interested our state of play is this: had a job offer in Washington DC but after going out there again last week we turned that down for various reasons but main one being he would hardly be at home at all and the whole idea of this move is for a better quality of family life because contrary to someone else's view I adore my husband and we are very, very close and still very much in love. The children are suffering with his absences and I can no longer sleep with a 7 year old in my bed every night crying because he's missing his dad.
My husband has however been offered a fabulous job with a large satellite company based in Ottawa he is over there in 2 weeks time to finalise negotiations and sign on the dotted line this will then (I hope) help fast track our PR visa that has been in for 22 months now. So for curiosity's sake there you go thats what has happened to us and I hope you all forgive me for my very angry rants and hopefully \I shan't be one of those people that gives it 6 months and then returns to UK else I shall never be able to show my face again cheers xxx

I haven't got a clue where you're coming from about June, August, September and October we only got the job offer for Ottawa 3 weeks ago!!!! This is after refusing a job offer that was similar in Washington DC. So I think you have got yourself confused and I'm not really sure what you're point is?! Read back through my quote before getting on your high horse and assuming the worse - tad of the old green monster I fear
Well here's hoping your not disappointed.
PC Washington DC has nothing to do with Canada and therefore won't influence the PR process.

what planet did you drop from - Royal Navy for 7 years and thinks he's an expert, people like you walk round with such a weight (2 chips on each shoulder) when you've done as many years as my husband (who actually started life as an airman and then became an officer 11 years ago through lots of hard work might I add), then you can come back with such a reply but lets be honest 7 years is hardly a lifetime in the military!!!! No I don't feel you are qualified to comment! By the way "move yourself" in the past yes, we have had to move ourselves due to the incompetance of RAF admin and we moved into our own house (by ourselves again) 7 years ago. I haven't got a clue where you think airman do the removals for you what a joke just goes to show you have little or no experience - lower ranks have never been asked or ever would be asked to do this its done by professional packers called "Pickfords" so before you come back with such a vicious, uneducated, and ridiculous reply do your research because you only make a prat of yourself and your point is completely invalid!!!! Consider yourself told off Ha ha ha ha

So are they arranging a work permit to get him here and started... getting the LMO, applying for the permit etc, or are you counting on the mythical "fast tracking" for UK PR applicants with job offers alone.
If thats the plan are they arranging to do the paperwork for an AEO, or is there nothing but the job offer in hand, which wont count for much officially Im afraid.
I dont know that there is even any formal acnowledgment anywhere that the "fast track" even exists.
And take a chill pill or something, please! Rae was just making the point that this time around you will have to arrange and pay for everything yourself. Dont see it as a big problem myself. Countless thousands of us without even basic training have managed it all on our own.
However the irony refered to was that you are on a web forum bemoaning people being on a forum offering "advice" (for want of a better term) rather than living life. If you cant see the irony in that (or failed to understand the way it was written), then perhaps you should stick to face to face meetings. Good luck with that when you are in the UK and we are in Canada. Ive a feeling many of the people you might meet in the UK to discuss moving to Canada probably has some financial interest in painting a certain picture. Those of us who waste our time here are only doing it to share our knowledge for free, cos we are returning the favour after someone else helped us along the way, or cos we wish we had known this stuff when we started, so please, try not to come across as a total arrogant bitch, its discouraging and thankless enough posting here as it is.

Its got to be quicker than sitting there in the queue and waiting and waiting (2 years in Feb) when we started this process the wait was 18 months, now its 26 months although obviously we have to go at the pace of the immigration process you can't tell me it won't help to speed this along especially as the job is not one a Canadian can do thats why people from different countries are interested in him.

If the employer is dead keen on the hire, and can wait the time for the HRSDC clearance (or already has) and visa issue then that's great news.

Basic terms
LMO...Labout Market Opinion (required from HRDSC to get a work permit)
AEO...Arranged Employment Offer (required from HRDSC to certify that a job is for real and above board inorder to get extra points for PR...and presumably to get you on a fast track...if such a thing even exists)
LMO requires proof the position has been advertised in Canada and noone found, and will get you here on a work permit within a few months
AOE, not nearly as stringent conditions, but wont get you here any time soon.
It would be rather unusual in this situation for an employer to negotiate and commit to salary and conditions, and then be prepared to sit and wait for PR to come through. I would expect some sort of work permit solution to be in their mind, unless they have been mislead over the true likely timeframe involved, in which case they might drop the whole idea.
As the job is in Ottawa, and Ontario has no PNP, your options are basically wait for PR (could be at least another year..even fast tracked...if that really exists), or go the Temporary resident work permit route in the mean time.

Im really not sure why you came on this site, it looks like just to have a go at people and say hey look at us.
You seem to think your husband is so wonderful because he has been in the military, what difference does it make. You say he has worked "so hard" do you think he is the only one who has worked hard in his job.
I see you apologised for your 1st post but im not sure that will make much difference, the damage has been done.
I have done my research on the area I want to go to, visited there last May but that doesnt mean when I get there I wont feel home sick, I guess thats something no one knows until your actually there.
Your wait seems quite short compared to mine as ive only just started the process and that looks like at least 45 months.

Im not trying to be rude but just felt I had to put my 2 pence/cents worth in

Oh please, spare us. You are just lucky that your hubby has skills no-one in Canada has. Its not so much the result of hard work, you think other people out there have not worked just as hard, if not harder? Its just blind luck to be in the right niche area. I know what I'm talking about, as that how I ended up here. I worked hard to get there, but I'm no more special than many others who had far more to lose and took a chance on coming here. In fact I had it positively easy, and have far more respect for those who really had to work to make this happen, rather than have it fall in their lap. It just sounds to me like you are trying to reconcile the fact that you had to raise the kids without seing much of him, well you are not alone in that situation unfortunatley. One of the prime reasons I am so grateful for the life I have in Canada is that I can maintain some sort of work / homelife balance, and get to see my kids grow up.
My advice if I was in your position. Beware of coming on just a work permit, its a pain in the arse, you have no credit rating for example, and no recourse to alternative employment or unemployment benefits should the employer turn around and decide its "not working out" after you moved 4000 miles to start here.
Credit might not seem too important, but even if you dont intend to run a balance, the convenience of having local cards is nice to have, or a monthly car payment rather than paying out a lump sum. I guess it would not be forever, but if you can avoid it, then try to!

Read the very small print - those of us who partake on this nonsensical rambling ranting website are not the snake oil salesmen. We have no shiny suits, no freshly pomaded hair, there's no hang-wringing from us, hoping for a deal and a commission - we have done it, moved it, paid for it, screwed it up, suffered it, waited for it, lived it and seen it. We've worried about it, panicked about it, fussed over it, said to hell with it. We've succeeded at it, achieved it, and wondered how we managed it, but ultimately, those that done it, are it.
We all offer a free service, there's no warranty with it.
Rich.
