Bizarre, why didn't the wife get up early take the husband to work and then the kids to school then she wouldn't have got depressed by staying in the house all day without any transport. It's those kind of negative people that just need a kick up the a**e. Afterall most people back here would give their hind teeth to have the opportunity to move to Canada and would give their all.

hey this thread getting a bit heated. All I have to say on it, is this, if you are making a leap into a country and emigrating, you must be well thought out in all areas as much as you can, and you must expect a culture shock too, also home sickness, yes you will experiances all these things, we are only human after all, and try and reconise that when it happens. I read a lot of the threads on Moving back to the UK forum, and some of the reasons as why they moved back where valid and you can understand, ie was out there for 2 - 3 years, just could not settle in etc, but some are verging on the ridiclous, like been there 3 - 6 months and came back, some have holidays longer than that!, also some take work, and find the work not what it was soppse to be, cant understand that, did they not have a work contract before they left stating their pay etc?.
Have a good day

Two things come to my mind.
One, homesickness is something a lot of people don't expect to be a problem but then discover they are suffering from it. There is no way to prepare for that and it is a legitimate reason to head back home.
Two, in my experience, Brits in general have been brought up to expect someone else to take care of them as a result of socialism. That is a cultural difference and you cannot just change it overnight.

Yes we have a nanny state, yes we have had nationalised industries BUT other countries (canada included) have had more left wing govts yet their citizens\nationals are not percieved to be as whinging or to expect the state\other agencies to care for them to the degree that 'Brits' do.

Also, if you have a personality like a bag of wet mice or are an a***hole then it won't help either.[/QUOTE]
I completly agree, & love the expression "bag of wet mice" almost as good as a "bag of badgers"

I'm on here also, as I have the time to be. I don't work now, so like to fill my day with a bit of this and a bit of that. I'm not bored, just busy with lots of aspects to my life, including this forum.

I agree many a military marriage has gone down the drain and many a civilian marriage too, I think that is irrelevant. All our decision making is a joint effort as we are used to working as a team otherwise we would never have put up with this lifestyle for so long and come out of it wiser and wealthier. I think I have touched a nerve with all the whinging, whining British public who sit in the UK in January, make a decision to emigrate to a Country they know very little about and then when given the opportunity of a lifetime sit on the other side of the world moaning about not having good tv, chocolate, finding it hard to get a job etc.,

No you wrong again being ex-miltary myself I have 1st hand knowledge of the difference between Living at home and weekend leaves or short postings at home.
It's 7:30 pm here and all management left at 5 so you might get to share the delights of late afternoon life.
and with this statement I'll not bother to respond to you so have a nice life and hope you get everything that you so richly deserve.
Its only because there is so much employment in this Country that people find it so easy to get a job not because of their skills. I suspect I am right because the ones getting on with their lives and making a go of it haven't got the time for a forum their too busy enjoying themselves.

I think your presumption that people don't research before jumping over here is way off the mark....or are you just depressed at being put in the queue with the riff raff.

I wish I had had something like this forum 16 years ago when we came to Canada. To have been able to talk to people in a similar position and to share how we were feeling, whether we were settling well or suffering homesickness, having trouble fitting in etc.
Also things like finding a good area in which to purchase a home, finding a good DR, school etc, all of these things can be easier if you have someone to talk to that has already done it. There were sooooo many things that we didn't know and things that we could have learnt from a forum like this.
I have thoroughly enjoyed reading the posts on this forum even though I have been here many years, because I always wondered if it was just me that was finding it hard to settle and was it something I was doing wrong, but after reading the many posts on this forum I know that it wasn't just me and that it was something very normal for "some" people to feel.
I hope this forum is able to help many people in the process of moving to Canada, or all the newcomers that are already here.
Oh! and I don't really think there is anything you can do to fully prepare yourselves for a move to another country. Your emotions throw all your well laid research, planning etc totally out of the window!!! :scared:
For me it was extremely hard settling here but I can thankfully say that I am happy here now at long last and can call it "home".
Keep posting everyone this is a great site
