Considering a move, NS to AB
#46
I think the reason they don't like it is because there are a lot of people who take a dig at NS. No idea why specifically! That's why it just seems a bit unjustified when those that are negative haven't even set foot in NS.
Stats don't mean much out of context though so don't put too much faith in to them... Here's a stat for you. There are more millionaires per capita in the small town of Pubnico in South West Nova Scotia than anywhere else in Canada!!!!
On that note I think maybe we should end this exchange before we come to blows!

Well that's a bit of a defensive rant ...
All I and others have said is that any one can comment.. Most people will usually look up some info / stats before making a statement.
But the majority of NS dwellers (on here) don't seem to like ANY negativity.
That is all .

Ooh look. Here's (yet another) article by the paper the Globe and Mail, that evil NS/Maritimes/Altantic provinces bashing machine:
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/...ticle12300106/
"Atlantic Provinces face a new brain drain"
ie. Not booming. People leaving.
"Paradoxically, the region’s decreasing population could be a boon for the universities. “The real driver for our universities is the fact that our domestic population of university-eligible students is declining,†says Peter Halpin, executive director of the Association of Atlantic Universities. “So we do have the capacity to absorb more students, whether they come from other parts of Canada or other parts of the world.â€
i.e. young people leaving
“There have to be jobs – if we have the jobs, people will stay,†says Colin Dodds, president of Saint Mary’s University in Halifax. "
Well, duh.
"Lack of a job – or at least the perception that full-time jobs are difficult to come by – played into Ms. Padman’s decision to leave. “I kind of feel like it’s a little hard to get a job in Halifax. I would go to Toronto or Calgary … In a way it is hard to find a job here as international students.â€"
Damn the G&M. Why they got such a hate-on for NS? What did NS ever do to those journalists? They should really stop having a dig

This thread has become a bit of a cat fight for no reason I can think of. I've been to NS three times, once on business and twice for vacations. I liked it, what I saw and experienced of it. But that's not so say I'd choose to live there.
I think the issue here is twofold.
Firstly a notorious ex-poster called Ontheboatout who eulogized the place for years on here and his crazy Feng Shiu wife, whose username I forget. Of course it turned out one was a relocation agent and the other in realty.
Secondly, NS is (or was) unique in offering CI-PNP. It's reasonably natural that people who had the chutzpa to go this route would be grateful and therefore loyal.
Chill people.

On that note and being in NS so nearly as far east and can be in Canada, it's past my bedtime!

I don't actually think anyone is bashing NS. Moreso the fact that whenever there is a thread that says "what about NS?" The usual suspects come up time and time again singing it's praises whilst casually forgetting there is hardly any work there.
Now one or some of the usual suspects are thinking about moving out West???!!!!!!
You gotta admit it's quite funny
Whatever you think you can't deny that it's a beautiful province, with great people (not that i've been, I just know lots if Newfs over here - that came for work funnily enough) but as you have now FINALLY realised, views and cheap houses don't pay the bills.
As an aside we have a very long driveway too - probably longer than yours - nothing that the local grader can't handle in winter so don't sweat your balls about that.

What a bizarre thread. It's all very well using stats to get your point across but stats don't apply to everyone, if your occupation is in high demand & pays well in Nova Scotia you could be very happy there. It's not like there are no jobs whatsoever. Ok maybe taxes are high but properties are cheap, I for one look forward to being mortgage free when I move there
