the employment opportunities, tax rates, and the like are worse in NS than other provinces. That's where NS is crap.
Like I said, I don't have an issue with NS per se and I have no subjective opinion on it. You can't deny the facts though. It's seen, along with the other maritime provinces, as a net taker from other provinces through equalization payments, rather than giver.

ExKiwilass can I ask you what exactly it is you have against Nova Scotia? Have you been here? If so how long have you spent here to be so negative about the province?
FYI my reason for considering a move is because OH is not happy in his job. There are not many options available here or in any other province so he has to go where the job is. At the moment there is one job in Ontario which he is considering although we are genuinely hoping something else comes up in NS, even in a different part of the province as in the 2 years we have been here we have been very happy.

In fact we have the biggest air show in Atlantic Canada in September!
Sometimes when you take a step back you realize though that maybe you want something more in life than what where you live has to offer, that's all.
We love our home and we have made some nice friends. We will be sad to leave if that's what we end up doing. The decision hasn't yet been made for sure.
In fact it has been an interesting few days realizing that I like this funny little backward town a lot more than I thought I ever would.

Things are happening. It's still international-just... The ferry is rumoured to be coming back in 2014 and there are things happening at the airport and around town.

I am with Kiwi on this ... It seems that it's just not cricket to bash NS!

Hi
I am new to this site and this thread caught my attention. My husband is Canadian and was born in NS. He has been desperate to move back for a long time and now has a job offer in Yarmouth. His family live close to Halifax but he is happy to move to Yarmouth. I have visited his family lots of the years but never been to Yarmouth. Can you tell me what it is like living there! I currently live in Devon so city life is not important to me! Any info would be great!
Thanks

Just a quick question. You're actually thinking of moving to NS, Canada from Devon, as in England? And you also say you've been to NS? What is it that your husband wants to go back to?

Family and friends mostly but also work. Devon is great and we have been very happy here but work is hard to come by, wages are low and property prices very high.

It's not cricket...unless you have been here, lived here and experienced NS first hand then you can't really judge...
It's like me saying Vancouver is a characterless concrete jungle... I've never been, what would I know?

Eh? Anyone can bash anywhere if they wish .. What I meant was when NS get s any thing other than a glowing report on BE, all hell breaks loose.

As for anybody bashing anywhere they like. Don't you think it's a bit immature and senseless to criticise a place you have never been to? It makes the person doing it sound ridiculous as he/she has nothing to base it on....

Well I'm not one of the big defenders putting NS on a pedestal... I like it, at times I love it. Do I think it's the best place in Canada? No idea!

But you have to agree there is more to a Province than stats. Every resident of NS would agree that being the highest tax payers is not cool. Granted. So we're all trying to do something to get out of the financial deficit we're in. There are a lot of people working very hard to bring industry and tourism to NS for example.
So what do you recommend we do? Dig up the stretch between NS and NB and declare ourselves an independent island so the residents of the more affluent Provinces don't have to "bail us out"?

Well that's a bit of a defensive rant ...
All I and others have said is that any one can comment.. Most people will usually look up some info / stats before making a statement.
But the majority of NS dwellers (on here) don't seem to like ANY negativity.
That is all .

Stats don't mean much out of context though so don't put too much faith in to them... Here's a stat for you. There are more millionaires per capita in the small town of Pubnico in South West Nova Scotia than anywhere else in Canada!!!!
On that note I think maybe we should end this exchange before we come to blows!
