I suppose if you pour buckets of cream and sugar in they level the playing field a bit, but I've never got the hang of sweet coffee, to me it rather defeats the point.

And don't get me started on the "flavoured" concoctions - a UK-based friend of mine goes nuts for the french vanilla stuff, begs anybody visiting to bring some over, but, well, just bleeeuuugghhh!

Quite. I think I quite annoy people when I go to coffee shops, which I don't often do.

"Give me a medium coffee".

"What type?".

"Coffee type".

I like their coffee full stop, but I wish they would pare down on the eco-preaching etc. I also think that they hire unemployed actors etc. and give them laptops to make the place look busy.

the eco-warrior stance passed me by a bit, but I am v. happy they started selling small Coca Camino bars. yummy. 30 cents cheaper at Herb & Spice mind you :)

Starbucks is the ultimate for that. A small coffee is called a grande and they go up from there. There actually is a smaller size than a 'grande' but it is unadvertised. I find at Starbucks that there are so many coffee concoctions that there 2 or so 'regular' coffee styles are buried in amongst all the frapuccino, capuccino, vente, latte permutations that I assume are the big profit generators. How the barista's keep a straight face when they chant out the customers orders I can't fathom.

I was once in the Starbucks in the Chapters in Guelph and some 'luvvy' ordered a de-caf,latte with some other no fat combo etc., and the 'barista' called out to the other worker that she was to prepare one 'why bother'. That cracked me up.

LOL!!!! Brilliant.

Maybe it's time to fight back and invent our own terms?

"Gimme a short crapuccino with Charmin on the side and a tall Colombian desk-trembler. Easy on the mayo".

Got my Tim's fix at the qweekend in Winnipeg - always come home with a HUGE box of doughnuts and muffins - they don't last long in my house (and there's just me here!! Hehehehe)

It's the 'Secret addictive additive X' they put in the coffee that makes you act that way you know. ;)

You must still be shovelling snow and a lot of it....I went for a month one time on a recon visit...it was minus 40 degrees...I'm a whimp so stayed where I am in Mississauga...

A timmy's would go down well if you have to shovel driveways like you guys do..

Snow FINALLY melted by end of April, although we did have some fallon Friday night of last week. Drove to Winnipeg at the weekend and it sort of sleeted on the way. We actually didn't have that much snow over the winter - we get a couple of big dumps early on and that's sort of it.
You sort of get used to the temperature in winter - at least it's not damp!
I moved house on the coldest day of the year - it was -37 with a windchill down to -48! Yup, damn cold! The window lock on the back of the Jeep froze so I had to drive round town with the window open. Brrrr! Hehehehehe!

Anyway, I don't bother shovelling the driveway - I just drive over it in the Jeep!

I had a possible job transfer of my choice, Vancouver, Winnipeg or Waterloo from Toronto as my company were setting up four satelite offices all with in a few months of each other to support a contract...the fourth being Montreal, but couldn't speak French so that was not offered to me....So I went to Winnipeg and went to work and vacation and then did the same for Vancouver....So I choose Vancouver as it had a little of everything, love fishing, camping, outdoorsy type things...but it fell threw and I ended up at Waterloo for three years.

On the rare occasions I go into a Starbucks (far too strong and bitter for me), and order a regular coffee, they look at me like yes, what kind... you mean just coffee? Yes please, just a small one. We don't have small. we have grande. Oh dear, I am so out of pace with the rest of the world, LOL.

Besides a Timmy's is good on your way to work, in the early hours or the morning or the best timmy's is on a sunday, a short walk to a variety store to pick up the newspaper and have a timmys and a read on your way back...sundays is normally my day for a bagel with butter as well...
