ONE MILLION POUNDS A MONTH. That's like every person in the UK paying 1.7p of their own money EVERY MONTH. I'm scandalized.

It also underlines how our generous benefits system acts as a powerful draw for migrant workers
Yeah, it's worth working in a different country hundreds of miles away for an extra £33 a week.

The great thing about that article is that they're doing nothing wrong, it's all completely above board and legal, yet they're trying to portray it as if they're somehow being snide and underhand.

Sorry if I have now swayed of the subject but it is still about our HMRC.

The funny thing about all this is that alot of the taxpayers are now facing financial problems due to our dear HMRC's incompetence as they now demand back alot of the monies paid out to British families.

I myself are one of them -they put in their computer that my husband works 40hrs pw for no salary - therefore they are now demanding that I pay back £3000 paid from 2006/2007. When I wrote to them they stated that 'I should have known I was being paid to much'. Our tax and child benefit system is the most complex in the world know one knows what they are entitled too! Furthermore they themselves don't even understand it however, they will not admit they were completely wrong on this matter.:curse:

I am not sure what I make of the article written as at the time the country was disgusted but either way 1. It can cause alot of problems ie. anger, discrimination etc. or 2. As it is completely above board and legal in the way of - if any immigrants work in this country and pay taxes then they are legally entitled to benefits, unfortunately this really has created alot of problems and caused alot of discrimination against them.

Tracie, you are new here so I'll just point out that this stuff has been done to death many a time on this board. If, for some strange reason, you're interested in discovering more, please use the search function. "Bigot" might be a useful keyword.

Sorry, but if you are being rude then there is no need for it - I was replying to post regarding child benefit which went on about the incompetence of the HMRC.

New to the forum or not I thought I was having a discussion with a few people- clearly not, therefore I will shut up then!

They must have been pretty desperate to run this story as it is. They must have been terribly disappointed that this family was frittering away this money on their child's education and English lessons. Contrast with the usual tales of British benefit scroungers spending it all on booze, fags, Sky TV and playstations.
