You can get UK child benefit even without having children in the UK? Where do I sign up?

We informed them when we left.

Tell them before you leave the UK - it took them about a year and a half to finally deal with my repeated requests from Canada for payment to stop. If you look in the archive, others have found the same. It seems to be easier to get it done by phone from the UK - letters and emails from Canada were routinely ignored!

As we've seen today, they're not the sharpest sticks in the bunch - sort it whilst it's still a cheap local call.

Of course you may not want to be involved in UK Child Benefit at all...

Bazz,

Yes you can get Child Benefit and Tax Credits paid by our thieving government. If you reside within the EEC and your husband works in England so long as he pays tax, like most of the immigrants now in the UK then you are entitled to these things and probably more. It is well documented that most people mainly Eastern Europeans are now able to send their children to private schools as they are receiving hundreds £'s extra each month.

After yesterday's fiasco with the child benefit I just cannot wait to leave this country, we are heading to Kelowna next year, OH secured job so CANADA here we come:thumbsup:

Please tell me this is a joke?! What do you mean by 'lost the money' ?
Please advise them you are going - no further comment by me either.

 I'm sure I got an extra two payments - long after I told them I was off - but it was so complicated to cancel I just didn't have the energy to try and make contact from this side. That's me committing fraud too, probably ;)

Re: child benefit

I rang them the month before we left and was told that it was too early to inform them and would I please get back in touch the day before I was leaving.
I explained that I needed to get as much as possible organised before the day I was flying:curse: " sorry, but you really will need to ring the day before"

I rang them the day before, and the next month, and the next month and the next month....and on it went. :curse::curse:

OMG! What staggering incompetence on their part! WFT do they do all day? Oh yeah, lose the details of some 25 million child benefit recipients and their families bank details, date of birth, bank account details :curse::curse:

At least the director of HMCR did the right thing and quit his job!

Re: child benefit

Tell me about it - it took forever to get them to stop paying it to us, that was despite telling them before and after on numerous occasions that we were leaving permanently.

To add insult to injury, they even wrote to us at our Canadian address to tell us what our new "award" was going to be - everytime I hear about how overworked the civil servants in the UK are it makes me sick :frown:

Yes are know there are competent ones, it's just that they are in the minority
