Still haven't exchanged!
#1
As the title says we still haven't exchanged on our house - bl**dy solicitors toing and froing over nothing!
However, next Wednesday I leave my job and next Thursday the shippers are coming in. Luckily they will only be taking away personal possessions and some kitchen stuff so I'll still be left with some odd wine glasses and a knackered frying pan along with all our furniture which our buyer is buying should they sale ever be completed (not the knackered frying pan though I'm going to throw that away!!!
).
We have sorted out a rental in Whistler, BC for 3 months from the beginning of December but can anyone reassure me that I'll actually be there - getting very stressed with the whole process now! :curse::curse:

You'll be there , honestly !
Solicitors are a pain in the backside. Have they given you a reason why they haven't exchanged?
you may have to resort to phoning them on the hour , every hour asking "please explain why we haven't exchanged yet"
It took our solicitors about a week to actually get round to exchanging, they had all the paperwork , they were just slow. i wanted to shout down the phone "TELL THE MONKEY AT THE OTHER END TO PRESS THE BLOODY TRANSMIT BUTTON"
There is probably a reason why Ben makes all the phone calls!
seriously though I remember just how frustrating it is but it will all come together
<hug>

I was convinved it would never happen - again due to bl**dy solicitors! I've never known any group of people make such a meal of a bit of paper shuffling! Our buyer's solicitor went on 2 weeks holiday without informing anyone - not even his client
His secretary kept making excuses why he couldn't come to the phone
You will be in your rental before you know it
Just keep visualising the beautiful mountains

Hi Zoe
It will happen. We were in exactly the same position - as I posted on your last update. Within 10 days everything fell into place, exchanged on house, both left jobs, packers came, completed on house, got on plane.
I am sure the same will happen for you. I know it's frustrating until that casual call from your solicitors secretary to say "exchange has just taken place, bye". How can they take it so casually?!?
Our thoughts are with you let us know when you get the call.

Why does everyone say it's going to happen? It won't, someone will pull out at the last moment, the chain will collapse and it will cause pain and discomfort for months and months and it will seem like an eternity and you'll lose thousands of pounds and women will cry and wail and the ground beneath you will part and a so on.
Well that's what happening to me.
Well that's what happening to me.

I had resigned from my job, booked 4 one way air tickets to Canada, arranged the entire contents of my house to be shipped to Canada and still we had not exchanged contracts.
I flew out on July 1st, we exchanged on June 28th and completed the day after.

After buying and selling properties 5 times previously with absolutely no problems at all this time our luck ran out completely.
Still, lady luck may interfere on our behalf to save the day before christmas

We sold our house at the beginning of the summer, after only a few weeks on the market. Everything was going fine, searches all in, surveys all ok, exchange was imminent. Then the casual phonecall from the agent, "YOUR BUYER HAS PULLED OUT"
:curse::curse::curse:.. House has been back on the market now for about 2 months, market has really dropped and despite dropping price by 10 grand, we still can't find a buyer
Hang in there zoe, my fingers are crossed for you!

We know just how you feel.
Sold the house 22 Aug; after dropping by 20k
Our stuff went in a container last Tuesday...

Still not exchange; the buyer was getting an Islamic mortgage - now changed his mind and is going through normal channels.

Latest update, after dealing with a hundred ridiculous enquiries, our solicitors says we should complete in about three weeks.

I dare not book flights....
Plus the house in Ontario in now ready and the builder is pushing us...:curse::curse:

Ah good luck - may the home buying force be with you!
A similar thing happened to us - we had the solicitor from hell who also went on hols and forgot to mention it. Our buyers solicitor "forgot" some paperwork his ex needed to sign and we fell behind too. In the end we flew out as originally booked and completed about 10 days later - our family thought we were mad but we didn't really know what else to do and it just felt right.
It all worked out in the end but don't forget you are paying the solicitors a lot of money for their service. I would phone them, and your agent, daily to keep everyone aware of how serious you are.
Good luck!
