Yes there is an 18 month wait - maybe for PR then you just have to give UK earnings and they work out what you will get on that.

Yes no back payments to make, but did earn pounds against a strong dollar.

I dont suppose you know anything about RESP's etc, do you? I want to start up a saving scheme for my little one to when we are settled.
Hi Lamin

The forms are straightforward enough and benefit starts straight away. I applied in December and was paid in January for both December and January.

But if the kids is on Canada - and you are I assume, why does the Uk Govt still pay CS?? am confuddled ? !

Child and I are Brits and on an assignment with UK Govt. Due to spouse I applied for PR and UK born kid got duel nationality.

We return next week to the UK at end of assignment, tie up loose ends and re-enter Canada 8 weeks later as Bona Fide expats.

No job, no UK wage, no UK benefits, no UK ties, (well except passport)

The rules are different for crown servants that get posted overseas:

http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/manuals/cbtmanual/cbtm10060.htm

Basically, you get treated as if you are still in the UK.

Hi Ivesy,

The Universal Child Care Benefit is only available until the child is 6. I'm not sure about the other (means tested) child benefit though.
