Canada is a scam
 

I am very sorry to say that , and I know I'm just becoming a website pariah but in my opinion Canada is a big SCAM.
Starting with racism, so deeply imbedded in Canada's culture it's unbelievable. Mostly against indigenous people but here in northern Ontario in general. SHAME on you Canada.
Then healthcare- maybe free but getting a family doctor, getting specialist appointment is impossible. To wait over a year for a specialist?!?! I know it's free but so is in the UK.
Prices: everything here is so so expensive . Food, mobile phone plans, clothing, furniture - everything. Apart from gas but that is also climbing.
Jobs - low level jobs yes sure but slightly above that? It's all about who you know, connections not skills, not experience, not professionalism.
Canadians are very insecure , threatened by skilled educated foreigners. They are rude and obnoxious.
Theie attitude sucks , they think they know everything better, they think they are so so superior when in reality they are backward! At least 10 years behind the UK. Medical protocols, veterinary protocols and their customer care- that is almost non existent.
Canadians are dishonest, unprofessional, they are LAZY.

I am bitterly disappointed and after few months of being here and working in well paid job we are going back to the UK.
Canada is beautiful but that is about it. Could come for holidays but that's all.
And one more thing: Canadians always show strong resentment to comparison with the US. They think they are better than Americans. But the truth is they are a knock of copy of them. At least weith Americans is what you see it's what you get. Canadians are fake, two faced , passive aggressive and have no balls to be honest with each other.
Sorry Canada but that is my honest opinion .

So you went with the Sudbury job in the end then? You can't say you weren't warned……..!

Please be mindful of insulting an entire county with your views, particularly when you've said one of the things you don't like about Canada is racism. The country hasn't worked out for you, but there's no need to insult all Canadians, you can't possibly have met every single one of them.

I Don't get your point. So those redneck french speaking rasists here are not Canadians? Country suddenly doesn't take responsibility for their actions? So where this silent approval is coming from? How many times have you heard something along the lines" yes you are right but you know they are French so that's the way they are" ? Because I hear it all the time.
And I did not say " every Canadian" I said Canadians. And clearly stated it's my personal opinion.
And you felt insulted by that one sentence? Any comments on other issues? Typical passive aggressive attitude. That's exactly what I'm talking about.

Why on earth did you go to northern Ontario? Of course it's going to be redneck there, you'd find the same in bleak, sparsely populated, corners of the UK. If you want acceptance of diversity you should go where there's a diverse population, such as inside the M25 or the GTA.

You just gave Canada a 'few months' and everything was negative and awful so you're heading back to the UK. I don't think Canada will miss you. How much research did you do ahead of time. I think that many of your rants etc about life in Canada could be replicated by native Canadians moving to the UK complaining about life in parts of the UK. Housing prices in the UK are crazy and there are many people there on a never ending treadmill of get up/commute for a long way/work at a job you don't like/commute back home and then rinse/repeat as you accumulate debt.

Hope you find happiness back in the UK but based on your post I get the sense you are always whinging so not sure if there is paradise for you.

My point is that you're doing exactly what you've accused Canadians of.

I'm British, I'm not remotely insulted by your comments about Canadians. But you might want to wind your neck in and tone down the personal insults. Or you don't be on the forum for much longer to make your point anyway.

Now be nice, you're in Canada now. It isn't for everybody, but not knowing about racism definitely shows he should have spent more time reading on this forum or at least read the news before considering moving. What we really need are people who not only recognize the problems but want to become part of the solution. Like I said, it isn't for everybody and this won't be the first or last time someone has become disillusioned and bailed.

It is possible to decide a place isn’t for you without dismissing the whole country and all it’s people.

I feel the superficiality of friendships here in a way I never did before but I think that’s mostly due to the small town we came to, and the fact that most of my friends came back to their home town so have all these shared histories that I can never access. Yes, I think there is racism here, but of course that applies everywhere. Systemic racism infiltrates every society. Re healthcare; our GP friend in the UK was telling us that routine orthopaedic operations are now roughly a three year wait.

Maybe you’re just angry that despite the warnings, you chose the wrong place? Maybe you can just move on safe in the knowledge that you stepped outside your comfort zone, experienced it and it wasn’t for you. Good to find that out now before you become too invested in your life.

I wonder what went wrong? My impression is most people here seem to quite like it. I like it very much. Have the Canadians been beastly to you?

Guarantee if nothing else, you have just passed the 'honeymoon' phase that all emigrants go through. A few months is simply not enough time to make any kind of sober judgement.
