Yikes, that's grim, I get a bad reaction in that it swells up into a lump and a burning itching sensation, but doesn't blister like that.

They're supposed to be gone by now, but they're not - not sure why? Maybe the cooler than normal summer has fooled them

We don't many mosquitoes in Vancouver thank God. Last year I spent a week in Saskatewan and it was awful. Full of biting bugs and it was also really boring.

Mmmm, not what I was hoping to hear, NS is one of a few places I was looking at, I hate bugs, I attract them, they love me and I swell up like a balloon.. mmmmm

Do they get in the house much or are there screens on the windows and doors?

None in the house if you keep the doors shut and most houses will have screens.

However, you can't live inside for the whole summer, because you'll be inside for the whole damn winter!

lol, yeah that is true! I expect I would have to deal with it, I am sure it would only be a minor inconvenience compared to all the +s.

It's an annoyance, but not bad enough to go skuttling back home because of.... The wife just laughs at me because she doesn't have a reaction to them.... grrrrr Some people are just lucky!

I wasn't looking forward to the bugs but like someone said above I'm not going home because of them, and I work outdoors I don't really get them in the city here. I work in the countryside though and that's when I get them mostly.

Don't bother about them too much.

Looks like you need to use an area effect weapon mate

We have a stinger in the garden, they claim it keeps an acre clear, it certainly keeps our deck and immediate garden mosquito free. Cost was $84, but its worth it, as it gets rid of all flies, no see ums, mossies and Blackfly. If your getting badly bitten look for stuff in Canadian tyre or Walmart for outdoor use, you can get hats with nets, if your being plagued. Deep woods Off is usually good, also Muskoil is effective. Avoid shade and avoid treed areas. If you have standing water in your garden get rid of it.

Canada comes with Bugs. Live in fear of them and you will be miserable, take a few precautions and you can enjoy the outdoors again.

I am still getting badly biten by the bugs, I work outdoors and the mosquitoes are eating me alive. Now some of my bites don't bother me but I have taken a reaction to some of them and keep having this reaction. I get large blisters and huge lumps under my skin where the bug has bitten. Is it because I've never been bitten my mossies before?

This is agony and really wondered if I will become more immune to the bites as I live here more and more each year?

Has anyone else had this kind of reaction?

I have tried so many things to combat them but with no avail, they are becoming quite painful and annoying, oh and bug spray isn't working now, it worked at the start of the summer and then the bugs went away again and since the hot weather came back a new tougher breed of mosquitoes seem to be back in town.

Any ideas would be appreciated?
Google mosquitoes and bananas and also beautyberries. A diet change could repel them all the time.

wow I've never heard that marmite works.....I'm the only one in my family who will eat marmite on toast, and I was only bitten a few time on my feet, cause I was walking around the garden without shoes or socks on....oh and we live in Dartmouth/Cole Harbour, and OH and Daughter have been bitten quite a few times and nasty too...I was attached really badly last year, but I didn't find marmite in the shops until late fall!! I use witch Hazel (from the UK) on our bites, I swear by it!!

Take a vitamin B1 tablet every day. It does help.

There is hope...I spend a couple of months each year in the US and used to work there during summers when I was younger (still in Scotland just now). I had always had reactions like yours until one summer I got literally covered in them and stopped counting at 70 on arms and legs. The good thing was it seemed to build up some immunity because I've never been as bad since. Have you tried Avon Skin so Soft - a lot of people swear by it - nothing seemed to work for me though other than one awful summer.

Oh and I'm in Dartmouth, I work in Waverly.
Are you sure you are not working near poison ivy or sumac, as that's what the blisters from that look like too...

Funny you should say that. I was thinking the very same thing. The blister certainly doesn't look like a mozzie bite.
