Re: The best place to live in Canada
Im not sure how much faith I have in these lists, one year not so long ago Leamington was top of the list. It seems to change a lot from year to year, which may not be a good thing if you are looking for some stability in life.
Anyway, the original thats been culled by muchmore is here

Re: The best place to live in Canada
where the hell is "Wood Buffallo" AB? Not far from Ft Mc I'm guessing.
Interesting and a bit bizarre that Estevan SK tops the discretionary income %, although who wouldnt rather have 29% of 134k than 29.3% of 79k...

2. Kingston, Ont.
3. Burlington, Ont.
4. Fredericton, N.B.
5. Moncton, N.B.
6. Repentigny, Que.
7. Brandon, Man.
8. Victoria, B.C.
9. Winnipeg, Man.
10. Levis, Que.
It would typify a survey performed in Ontario for it to have the top 3 places awarded in Ontario. They can't keep their hands off their own backs. Pat Pat Pat. The most "American" of the Canadian provinces. High humidy and heat in the summer with a pretty sharp bite to the cold near the great lakes in winter. Beautiful and surprisingly nice for cities so close to concrete dragons nearby. Nice people. Cities 1 -3.
New Brunswick is scenic, rural, sea-shore affordable.... but can we say unemployment on this site? If that doesn't scare you, pick up your fiddle and practice the "mudder tongue". If you can undersand : " Jeet, twirly teet ", then you know its not time for dinner. Fantasticly amazing people. So friendly.
Cities 4-5
Quebec is an aquired taste that you may not always find appealing. Sort of like Haggis. Those that like it swear by it. Those who don't.... can't bring themselves to. It is a very intense society that is openly hostile to anglos, and it is legal to NOT hire you because you are English, or if you are French but your name sounds English. It is NOT France. It is not always thought of as Canada either, mostly from those living there. Jobs are there, but fought over with mace and cudgel. Cities 6 and 10
Manitoba? You can do better than Winnipeg on a stormy night with your eyes closed. Coldest city in the country outside of the Northwest Territories. -50 with a wind chill AND a galling frost from the Northern lakes for 90 days straight. You don't know cold till you've been there. (try -75, where engine blocks break and tires start to separate from the tread.) You will never believe it. Winnipegers are tough as nails, their city is tough, crime is a serious problem there and their climate is appalling. They also pronounce "sandwich" "sangridge". My main reason for not chosing Winnipeg. Brandon is nice enough for those who know the difference betweeen a Massey Feruson and a Deere. Get your favorite place down at the diner, and they will ask you what kind of tractor you have. Brandon is so incredibly buccollic. Real, honest, hard-working people. Very conseravitive folks. Nosy and gossipy as they come, like ALL prairie towns. People feel that there is an extraordinary amount of pressure on them to conform in those places. Real estate is as cheap as you can find it. Less than half the national average in most prairie loacations and the house will resell for less than its component materials would cost. You can still find people who raised 7 children on a farm with no running water... and they don't complain. That's a stiff upper lip AND a lower one too. Cities 7 and 9.
British Columbia is beautiful, no question. Victoria is the last remnant of what was British here. The real estate is high compared to the rest of B.C., but not compared to UK. $350,000 for a condo... thats only £225,000. Sure, you can identify with the fact that Victoria is limited for space, and thankfully it cannot sprawl over the next mountain. (Calgary 280 sq. miles with a record growth rate of 35%. That is fast enough that the city map you buy will be out of date in two months.) Victoria is limited to crowding and those that can afford it seem to love its lifestyle. It is an island, and everything you buy is a bit more money. The logistics make it difficult to trot over to Vancouver for the day like years gone by, since a Ferry will cost $125 or so return for a single car and even though if the roads were empty it would take you just a few hours, well, the roads are not empty very often and it can take alot of time. Plan on staying overnight now. Its always a favorite with retirees, and panhandlers although the two communities seldom mingle. Victoria is sedate and feels like a small town. Scenic. Isolated.
My favorite?
Penticton B.C. or the Okanagan valley.

The methodology of the study is quite interesting. I expect youve lived in all those provinces before reaching your sweeping generalisations!
