I'm a conscientious host

I'm sure your guests appreciate it. A little thoughtfulness goes a long way.

Are you really as stupid as you make out. It is still coverd in meat juices/fat etc derrrrrrr.

Who in their right mind would want to follow in the footstep of Heather McCartney

I know from experience that continental France just doesn't understand people that don't eat meat, wondering if French Canada has a similar attitude.

I've traveled quite a bit and the toughest place for me was Spain, they are crazy about meat, at breakfast one day I took a bite of a harmless bread roll only to discover it was littered with chunks of ham!

We lived in Montreal from 1999-2001 and the choice of vegetarian food was pretty poor but hopefully things have improved since then. I also remember people (my MIL's friends mainly) interrogating me over my food choices it got a little tiresome after awhile.

And? The animal that provided the fat is dead, by refusing the vegetable you're not doing anything to improve its life. By refusing a steak or burger you're still making your point so why starve yourself?

Hi,

Does anybody know anyone who's vegetarian in Canada? We are hoping to get our PR through soon and I'm vegetarian along with my daughter. Will we be seen as strange in Canada?

Not worried for myself but worried for my daughter I want her to fit in, do schools offer a choice of meals or will it be packed lunch everyday?

We visited Niagara recently and when we told a waitress we were vegetarian her chin hit the floor, although she did her best to accommodate us. It seemed a bit like the UK 15 years ago.

Any insight would be appreciated. :)

Back to OP .... not sure where you are heading but Toronto has its own Vegetarian Association.

Just googled to see if Alberta does ... and yes it's called Vegans and Vegetarians of Alberta  They also have a Facebook page .....

J :)

You might just not like the taste? Not all veggies are political ones.

Funnily enough, my cousins wife said she became a veggie after living in the US for a few years. She said she'd had enough of meat and turned to the dark side. That was about 9 years ago and she's still a selective veggie.

You are describing a vegan not a vegetarian.

I'm not against vegetarians in the slightest. My veggie friends make me smile with regards to their double standards when they refuse to eat meat on the grounds of compassion while walking around in their leather shoes after brushing their teeth and then popping a bit of chewie (not of star wars fame) in their mouths

Granted some of the items above can be found containing no animal by-products but many don't.

Hope this doesn't start a debate on the subject mind you. Saying that, i am feeling grumpy today................:p

No, he's not. I'm vegetarian but do not wear leather etc. I do eat milk, butter etc whereas a vegan wouldn't.
