Another E-petition gets almost the same negative response
#31
Today 10 Downing Street responded to a petition that closed on 11 June 2008 from Roy and Joan Brentnall of Canada. It asked the Prime Minister to remove the discrimination against British State pensioners who retire to the Commonwealth countries rather than Europe or the USA. It has taken over 60 days to produce a response.
It is largely a copy and paste version of what was given to a petition on January third of this year.

Frankly I wish they would pay the index linking in the name of equality, but I know its not worth having a stroke over.
Anyway, Ive been waiting in the wings of the forum for something new and or interesting to come up, and it hasnt, so I guess this could well be my "YAGE" post. But who knows, I might pop back in from time to time, but nothing like in the past. Good luck!

You will be missed.

Pensions should not be funded by current and future taxpayers but from the returns on the money invested by those who contributed.

That's not how state pensions work, is it? It's not invested money as such, it's just paid out of general taxation.

Pensions are paid out of the National Insurance Fund, which has a huge surplus, which is used for other purposes than pensions although it was funded by all those pensioners contributions. You can find more information at the Pension Parity UK website at http://www.pension-parity-uk.com/home. If you go to the relevant page on the National Insurance Fund, you will be outraged at what you see there.

I'm outraged by the shoddy quality of that site. It's all CAPITAL LETTERS and tabloidesque phraseology. You might get a better response if you could come up with something less OTT.

Sorry, bazzz. I agree with you on presentation. I was in no way involved with that website. However I believe the facts it presents are true.

You wouldn't be sponging. You already paid for it and are entitled to it. As a matter of interest I just helped a previous doubter who thought it wasn't worth his while to see what he will be entitled to at retirement. He had written his UK pension off and forgotten about when he came here many years ago. Just like some of you seem to be doing. He is smiling now because between him and his Canadian born wife, who never worked in the UK but will still get 60% of wheat he gets, will get a pension of 51 pounds 92p a week ! Over 200 quid a month for life. He thinks he's won the lottery. All found money. So don't dismiss it out of hand. You may be very surprised.

Even as a CABP volunteer I couldn't agree more. I have tried to get it changed but I'm fighting some tough old geezers. However folks, if you can just get by that and see what is being done on behalf of all of us. Believe me the organization is a good one so don't be turned off by the site. The quarterly publication is much better

I moved to Canada in the full knowledge that my state pension wouldn't be index linked. I have taken account of that fact and made other arrangements. Nothing is going to change as a result of stupid on-line petitions. Nobody with anything more productive to do pays any attention to them anyway.

In fact, it is absolutely shameless.
Have a bit of dignity and self-respect. Stop trying to squeeze British taxpayers for more cash for yourself.
