Have you considered that people may simply have difficulty understanding you? I've been in Canada now for over 30 years and when I watch a Brit movie like Trainspotting, Brassed Off or Vera Drake I wish they had subtitles in some parts.

I think there's a difference between somebody not understanding and somebody being a plonker about it.

I don't know where the Canadian equivalent of "Bum*****, Idaho" is ... but I get the feeling it's somewhere in northern Saskatchewan. I mean no harm to Saskatchewanites, but for goodness sake catch up with the 19th century, will ya?

Let's just say Albertans look down on Saskatchewanites as being backward rednecks ... that says a lot by itself.

Anyone for a pils? Just ask the guy with the mullet ...

Not yet ... but it's coming ....

I realised over lunch that the only two people who have given me a hard time for being a Brit are both from Saskatchewan ... I hear such a variety of accents most days that nobody gives a stuff what you sound like.

See? What did I tell ya? There are many different ways of dealing with workplace discrimination. Moving on and up over the discriminatory sludge is the most satisfying, IMO. I once had the incredible pleasure of interviewing someone who had, a few years previously, had discriminated against me. He was in usually interview mode until he realised where he recognised me from - man that was great!

BTW - IMO, bargain your ass off.
