My 36 year old daughter, whose medical conditions mean she would struggle to survive getting Covid and can't have the AZ vaccine, is still 3 weeks away from her first Pfizer vaccine. Guess she doesn't know the right people.

Are you sure her medical conditions don't prevent her having Pfizer either? It has some very serious side effects and for someone with medical conditions the worse one to have because of its fast wane.

AZ wanes as fast as Pfizer. Research released in the last 72 hours.

A little bird told me what to do. It was obviously right and I have a booking for my second shot on the 16th September.

Your Evidence?

I have looked at a wide variety of evidence and looked at country by country roll out, start dates, etc and those who put their eggs in the Pfizer basket are really starting to struggle on hospitalisation rates. Boosters are helping, if you take Israel as an example but the Pfizer fast wane lost a lot of lives.

Pfizer is fine if you want to boost every 6 months but having to import that and convince the population to do it every six months is not feasible.

But over the course of three months, the protection from Pfizer fell significantly whereas immunity with the AstraZeneca jab remained more stable.

The above is in your article

I think the surging hospitalisation rate in Israel shows how badly Pfizer wanes and is now quite conclusive. We may have to wait a few weeks or a month or 2 to see the full effects of the AZ wane but so far it's looking like it decreases hospitalisation rates better than Pfizer does after 6 months.

In other articles they’re about the same. Thinking regular boosters will be required no matter which vaccine one selects.

Well, my first reaction to that is, her doctor(s) -- GP and/or specialist -- are not working the system hard enough on her behalf. And need to be told so.

The second (and perhaps more practical) reaction is, she should also keep probing the system for an earlier date on her own bat, on a daily basis. This advice is based on VIC experience, but backed up by mates in QLD as well. (IIRC, you're in WA, and your daughter might be somewhere else again, but it's worth at least testing the following premise...)

The state vaccine booking systems are in a bit of chaos recently, but mostly for good reasons: unforecast new supply of Pfizer at unpredictable delivery intervals (e.g. the feds negotiated some bring-forward of delivery dates from Pfizer itself, and bought a million extra doses from Poland).

In VIC, I was trying to book as soon as I became eligible for Pfizer. At first it was impossible to get a state-facility booking at all (the hotline and the online system wasn't prepared when the new-eligibility announcement was made about my age group). Then there were some missteps by the booking hotline people. But I just kept hammering the phone and the online booking portal, and got better answers (i.e. progressively sooner appointments for both the first, and later second jabs), every time I went back to the well, for both me and my wife. There are also private clinic options and a federal booking system to canvass as well, though in the end, the state-run one proved the fastest for us.

YMMV, and all that. But I'd suggest that persistent effort can accelerate the process for her, by repeatedly looking for a better answer than the current appointment she has 3 weeks hence.

Yes, no doubt, but if it wanes a lot and quickly it will put more hospitalisation risk on the population like Israel are discovering. People just won't get vaccinated at such short intervals and there are global supply issues with Pfizer

Where. In Australia? For those who believed some nonsense about Pfizer being a better vaccine, which it is not, there are plenty of supply issues in Australia. You are a case in point. RetiredNow suggests you have been eligible for AZ for a number of months and the fact you have for some bizarre reason been waiting out for the inferior Pfizer and have had to get it through back door means shows the supply issue. And this is only going to get worse in the next year as everyone globally fights over the booster shots due to Pfizers quick wane

You really epitomise the ignorant clown. It might be bizarre to you but I’m pretty sure my nephrologist knows what he’s doing.
