Kids cycle from school to the beach for surf lessons, change into wetsuits, leave all their bags on the nature strip and no one takes a blind bit of notice.

Indeed. Feels like nothing gets robbed here, not even for the sake of it. Back home people would steal your grass if they could. (garden variety of grass!!!)
