It's a coffee shop, ergo it gets boycotted by default

I have primarily boycotted Gloria Jean's for their crappy, expensive coffee - living in the Inner West of Sydney, there is an indy coffee shop within 30 seconds anyway, so no need to go there. However, given a choice between 7/11 machine coffee and Gloria Jeans - I'll take 7/11 because they're at least not going to fund some mouth-frothing fundamentalists.

I wish to correct this. Santarium is owned by the Seventh Day Adventist Church, not the Mormons (Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints). While I subscribe to neither church's superstitions, I think it is only fair to point out that the Seventh Day Adventists are nowhere near as extreme or prosetylizing as the Mormons. They're more quirky than they are imposing.

Is it safe to say that everyone who is boycotting certain companies due to possible funding of certain religious groups doesn't drive, or use as a passenger, any vehicle that uses an oil based fuel?

I clicked on this thread thinking it was a thread about jeans. ie the denim kind. I am so out of touch.

No.

And that's a false analogy.

I knew it was some American lot. Sorry to any offended Mormons.

Can't say I find them any weirder than any other religion. Now if you had a Mormon Pope that would be really weird.

What a strange connection. I managed to work in oil exploration for 30 years without making any connection with religious groups. Did I miss something?

For a start, because oil is a commodity and not a company.

Why don't you have a shot at explaining why it is an apt analogy?

Maybe start here, and then search a bit more on the relevant topic.

I have a real issue now; owing to a certain politician's public service cutbacks work are now unable to fix the water heater.....and apparently kettles are a WHS hazard so we can't have one. So I'm now on my second day of no caffeine which is not only bad for me, but not exactly good for anyone I have to deal with
And I categorically refuse to spend excessive amounts of money and join the Cardboard Coffee Cup Culture when I have a perfectly good jar of Nescafe on my desk. I might have to start mixing it with the contents of my water bottle and drink it cold

Not the same but a Thermos of hot water? Get a local cafe to refil it at lunchtime?

If its not fixed by tomorrow I shall have to buy a Thermos at the weekend, can't cope with this place without my coffee
Makes me laugh really - the people who moan about the smokers are now just as bad....one cigarette takes approx 12 minutes to smoke by the time they've gone down in the lift, outside etc - the Cardboard Coffee Club now take 20 minute breaks every time they want a drink Tell THAT to the Premier !!
