Our year 6's did not know Away in a Manger...
They just sing Jingle Bells and thats it!!!

I know most of them. It is more a generational thing than anything, i.e. the newer generations don't learn the traditional carols. When I was growing up they were very prevalent.

Carols by Candlelight is still a big thing in Australia and most of the traditional carols are sung during these events. The Melbourne event has been running since 1938 and I believe it was a world first for this type of thing (but don't hold me to that).

It has got a bit more commercialised over the years but I think you'll find they sing carols like ones that have been mentioned in this thread.

'Australian' carols like Six White Boomers etc. are more of a novelty and are in no way a replacement for the European origin carols that are still the better known in this country.

Maybe.,.... Mind you have you heard theses ones, Will be played all over the UK this year yet again. Still means Xmas to me....

Jona Lewie......that always makes me feel so Christmassy

Also alot of traditional carols sung at our Primary school have been changed to eradicate any sign of religion.....I'm not religious myself, but I still find it a bit wrong
