No.****ing.Way.
- only way I'd give up British citizenship would be in return for Scottish independence/citizenship.

In my opion it's too easy to get citizenship. Vast numbers get Australain citizenship then head home, secure in the knowledge that they can run to AUSTRALIA if things ever go wrong.
Most rich Indonesian Chinese (chino's) have at least one family member with an Australian passport, usually a girl as the sons all run the family empire. The logic is if things ever go the way they did in 98 the family can all seek refuge here.
Same goes for many Chinese, who hold Australian passports and live inching where they pay little tax.
The issue is the cost of providing a safe haven and diplomatic protection and services for people who's only financial contribution is the cost of the passport.
I worked on crisis evacuation planning, and you would not believe the extent to which Australia would go to rescue its citizens. I wouldn't like to be standing holding a gun on some distant airport to save some guy who uses the citizenship as a flag of convenience.

Just out of curiosity; do you Brits think it would be as "easy" to become Australian citizens, if you weren't able to still keep your British citizenship?
Like if you lost it automatically if you got your OZ one....
I am asking since it would be a huge isue for us, and not easy at all, since we would loose our Danish citizenship forever, if we applied for (and got) an Australian citizenship, as we don't have double citizenship as an option in Denmark....
I am not sure I would be ready for this at all, not ever being able to go back and live (or die) if I felt like it in the future for whatever reason.
What do you think?

lol.
no way. unlimited access to NZ, but visas for everywhere else?
for me the only single advantage of an Australian Passport would be the possibility of an E3 visa to the States.
I'm eligible, just havent bothered applying yet. I'm sure I will one day.

I haven't renewed my uk passport for years. I don't even know where the old one is. I guess I wouldn't care if I lost my uk citizenship.
I tried to register with the British embassies of the former colonies where I was working this year. There aren't any. Britain basically is gone from the region, apart from a small presence in Fiji.
The idea of being able to work in a wide range of European countries sounds appealing, but given the current state of the EU and the Euro, I think most Biritish will be coming out of there soon, in scenes reminiscent of Dunkirk. the way things are going waving an EU zone passport will be like waving an Afghanistan one before long.

In the last 12 months: Vanuatu, Fiji, Tonga, Kiribati, Nautu, Manila, Auckland and of course Sydney.
Next year Auckland, Tuvalu, Fiji, Tibet (?) Manila and maybe Mongolia if I can't get out of it. And of course, Sydney.
The nature of the beast....
