Not $100, $100,000. We fell 5 points short on the points test so had to invest $100k in a government bond for 12 months to get the extra points. We got it back with interest though

Well yesterday for us reached new heights of the Australia saga.

My Dad is having a hard enough time coming round to us going as it is, watches all programmes about venomous nasties in Australia, calls me to say 'You do know you can be stung to death and bitten by a 'funnel-back' spider (a new one on me!!!!!)

As you can imagine, each time someone says something bad about Oz, Dad believes them and then calls me in a bid to change my mind.

So imagine my horror when he told me that this 'friend' told him that her friend was on a sponsorship visa (yes I know, there are many visas but since when did the truth get in the way of fact?).

And that Immigration took her passport on arrival into Australia and 'kept it as they were scared she would leave and not come back after they had sponsored her'.

'She is a bloody liar' I snapped and then asked what kind of crap was she fluffing out of her mouth, why was she doing it because to me, it was a case of shit stirring.

'Well it happened, you will have to ask her about it' Dad snapped back.

I cannot believe that 4 years after we made the decision to migrate, regular updates to family, keeping them informed, medicals, HIV, TB and other tests, IELTS for hubby, parting with good money for Agent services and medicals, hours of research, 6 weeks research on my own in Oz in 2 states, endless migrations shows at Sandown - including an evening with Glenn Newton and BE gang, some people STILL dont think we will go.

They are quite happy for me to stay in the UK where I am not as healthy as I am in Oz, take my asthma meds which I never touched in Oz and they are even happier to believe the twaddle that 'family friends' tell them rather than look on the DIAC website and find out for themselves.

Unbelievable, un-bloody-believable. I cannot stand people who instead of letting you find out things for yourself, try and live your life for you and make decisions.

Rant over, sorry guys.

(snort , - confiscation of passport my arse!!!!!!)

Perhaps I should tell them that John Howard is recruiting some pole dancers for Australia and once there, we will never escape.

pmsl Sam, that's a cracker . Wait til my MIL hears that . I wish they would take my passport away (so long as they replace it with an Aussie one of course ).

Gill

PS - Don't you think all that sun and sand will be bad for your hair?

Dont talk about the hair

Abdel said 'You wont need a hairdresser in Australia will you?' in a rather hopeful voice.

'Bollocks to that' I replied and then proudly displayed the details of Toni & Guy in Subiaco!!!!!

I barely drink, dont smoke and dont go out, hate clothes shopping so my hair is the only thing I spend money on.

I shall be armed with various sun protection sprays, conditioners, serums and stuff and even a hat.
