Never thought I would see the day Chris - yes - the investment takes a long time, that's the reality. People might forget that there were ordinary results in the 70s for Australia and that the 2000 games (and home advantage) etc were the pinnacle of the investments made after that 'calamity'.

The UK is enjoying a lot of success in a similar vein.

Well like them or not it is very obvious they have been a huge success and extremely popular. The incredible success of England will undoubtedly be a very bitter pill for Australia to swallow, various posts in this thread prove that. The obsession in Australia with beating England at everything is as strong as ever and makes this result even more embarrassing. At least Australia has the cricket and the.....well the cricket anyway.

In fairness the standard of A league play surprised me, I may even go and watch afew this season, I think it would be a close run game at this point in time.

It gets suprisingly very competitive, I think it may be with so few teams, that a few personal dislikes come to the fore, so you get a bit of argy bargy between certain players with carried over scores to settle.

It's still crap though. Mind you, I went to the final a couple of years back at the Sydney Football Stadium. Atmosphere was something else.
