Thanks for that, I was just saying to Mark all my family that live in the states, (which is alot) never speak like that.

The answer to every question here seems to begin with either "Yes, no..." or "Look..."
Not that I'm complaining. It makes me look clever, and I need all the help I can get.

hahaha, I've noticed the "yeah, no" thing too, mainly from the student/surfy types (i.e. my mate from uni).

I think it's an age thing. The older you get, the less tolerant you get and the further away your speech pattern gets from the pattern 'on the streets'. I swear, I have to ask young shop assistants in the UK to repeat what they said, at least twice a day. All I hear is 'snnflt grr nyur snnffl' After two or three 'I beg your pardons' or 'Could you repeat that please.' I usually work out what they have said. One particularly charming girl in our local shop speaks in tongues whilst texting on her mobile and chewing gum....
Blinkin heck, I'm old....

Coming from Liverpool, however, I have noticed y'know that Liverpudlians y'know say 'y'know' many times when they talk y'know.
It's irritating y'know.

I've noticed that a few media people and especially politicians start their sentences with 'Look..... but I think it is because they are trying to defend themselves and their sometimes questionable decision making!
