i was just flicking through another forum.... just interested in finding out how other bricklayers were doing here in perth...
happen to notice a thread that mentioned how unfriendly this site is...
i was just wondering what other people thought as i noticed that some BE members were also members of the site...
is there a clique here...?
is it unfriendly?
i post on here now and again ,and i hope that some of my posts have never put people off coming to australia....
but it would seem that someones post has...

What forum was that on?
I think it can be a bit like that sometimes on here. It's a fantastic place for support and information and I'd have been completely lost without it, certainly wouldn't have got through TRA and visa application with no agent if I didn't have the advice from this site.
Sometimes it can appear cliquey but really all people need to do is join in
There are definitely times when it can be a bit unfriendly but I'd say the times when people help each other far outweigh the ones where they don't.

There have been times on this site where its been downright horrible and cliquey, I remember a particular unpleasant time on here when a few members whom I shall not even grace with naming, were very horrible to me.
However, as you say the good far outweighs the bad times which are few and far betweeen.
I consider myself lucky to have met quite a few people from this site and can't ever imagine not coming on here.
There are alot of decent people on here and I liken it to real life, you can't like nor get on with everyone.
BE is my second home

Definitely not unfriendly. People make sarcy comments that others don't appreciate but that's as far as it goes. Yes it can seem cliquey but again, lots of people who have been on here for eons like to be able to have a gas to friends. Even people who've not been on here long do the same and I've seen threads that I've thought ok, they're all friends, that's cool, I'll stay away but it's all a matter of choice. People are too sensitive considering it's a worldwide public forum.
I don't believe it can be beaten for useful info.

If you don't shut up I am going to pull your hair and tug on your cheeks, then I am going to form a clique and whisper/giggle each time you walk by.
Then I am going to tie up your shoe laces and stick a sign with 'Pinch my botty' on your back.
So there.

Think that's one of the biggies, there are a lot of friends on this site. I've made lots through it, met people, speak to people every day, so naturally that will overflow back on to the forum. I guess that can make it appear cliquey in that respect.
Also the fact that a lot of people have been members for a long time, so know a lot about each other, the site, old posters etc which can mean nothing to a new poster and would probably appear a bit confusing and again cliquey. In reality though, it's not really like that. It can be sometimes, but mostly it's not. Like I said before, people are welcomed if they join in usually

Cliques are only cliques when you are not a part of them! When you make the bloody effort to be accepted it can be very fulfilling!

OK, so when you arrive you don't know anyone - but it's your choice if you want to get to know anyone or not!
I think that on the whole the people on this site are very friendly & welcoming, and there is a lot of good advice to be had. It's just important to ignore anyone who's being an idiot, and not take anything too personally or too much to heart. It is just a forum after all!

It wasn't drivel, I agree completely! Not participating is like seeing people who know each other at a bar having a laugh, and not speaking to them because they already have friends and are obviously a 'clique'. (KLEEK, not CLICK btw!)

clarkey was a school friend,he hated football and was always picked last,he used to kick the ball in his own net....
he nicked a coach and dressed up as a bus driver, drove it blackpool and rammed about 20 copper cars on the m6...
not bad for a 14 year old...
trust me ,,being left on the half way line can seriously damage your health...or a policemans...
