OK what does this mean. Anything up to $1m is tax free and anything over is taxed? If so I'm selfishly over the moon

To me that amounts to a massive amount of disillusioned voters - and a massive amount who will feel disenfranchised.

Not a good position for the country :(

Just been looking at the massive imbalance between % votes and seats in Scotland, 50% of votes 94 odd % of the seats??? I have no vested interest in the UK anymore, but proportional representation surely has to be the go. For a democracy, it seems awfully undemocratic

Ok this is what the beep says

Increase inheritance tax threshold for married couples and civil partners to £1m

I was of the understanding inheritance tax wasn't applied to spouses anyway. ie your husband dies the wife can remain in the property tax free.

How depressing that there are so many closet Tories in the UK that have squirmed out the woodwork.

The Lib Dems really f**ked up getting into bed with Cameron after the last election to snaffle a few crumbs of power from the rich man table. They were genuinely on the verge of becoming a legitimate 3rd party, but spat in the face of their grassroot support. It'll take them a generation to recover from this mauling.

I agree, there were loads of "undecideds" right up until the day, they have made their minds up against a Red Ed and SNP alliance which would have been a nightmare for the UK.

UKIP is getting 2 seats, Farage looks set to lose his. The party may have seen the biggest swing in votes, but that's a relative measure. It's the seats that determine the voters' preference, and on that score UKIP has been comprehensively junked.

Yes, that was my understanding too. I am just trying to see what the policy actually means.

So when do we get to find out about Farage? What have they been doing in Kent all night!?

Here's an article in the Guardian about the Tories' IHT pledge:

Tory IHT Plan

It essentially looks like no IHT is payable on estates valued up to £1m.

So this could benefit you ;)

Tories will get about 1/2 seats with 1/3 of the votes. Undemocratic?

Well yeah, half the seats because you got half the votes sounds a lot fairer to me. Are you being confronting ?

That's not how the system works, and well you know it ;)

UKIP got a higher % of the overall vote than the SNP, but only 1 seat compared to the SNP's 56...

Not counting till the morning apparently.

Obviously not enough Polish immigrants to give the job to.

At least they will finish counting today, instead of in 2 weeks time...

Well not really a benefit. A family farm which has been in the family for generations will need to be sold to pay the inheritance tax as no one would be able to afford to stump up the tax. Good to see they are going some way to assisting with the nonsense concept but a million is not a lot these days and land in the south east is expensive. A real shame for extended family who have spent years enjoying the enjoying it, never received any profit from it, and never intend to receive any profit from it.
