I must have been living under a rock if those 4 are internationally recognised names. You keep saying respected but what is that. I respect people on here and I dont even know them.

My point was that, if you are quite knowledgeable about music, and read music magazines, there are lots of canadian artists who are right up there in terms of their quality and their critical recognition and respect from other artists.

There are not nearly as many Australian artists about whom the same could be said.

Nah - that was just me making excuses. The real reason was because Australia have never produced a rock supergroup to match Queen.

Making a sarcastic remark like that doesn't cancel out the fact that you have contradicted yourself regarding the GFC in Australia.

But in any case you are right, it hasn't. And likely never will.

Ok, time out. Let's channel Edward de Bono and try to approach this query from a lateral perspective.

willamos: why has the UK and Australia produced so much in the way of popular music when compared to Australia?

Why don't you write a letter or an article to one of your magazines. Maybe they could discuss it or give you an answer..they are obviously going to be more interested than some of us.

Plus none of us are clearly qualified enough to comment on music because we do not read the same magazines as him. Just out of interest Will, it's Smash Hits, isn't it?

Stupid comment. If you are not interested in the discussion, why post?

Oh, you are silly enough to think that Rufus Wainwright gets discussed in Smash Hits are you? Shows what you (don't) know.

But then quite a few on here would argue that you are not interested in the discussion. Every reason and point that has been given has been dismissed. You have a theory already and you are not willing to be swayed by anything other than "it's because Brits are just superior"
