God it's like a big black cloud over the year isn't it. Mine is here in Feb but only for 2 weeks thank god, and I'm just glad it's not for Christmas so I don't have to cook a ****** turkey in 35 degree heat.

Christmas here is pish - end of It's too hot and as a result the aussies can't be arsed celebrating the thing - either that or they're as tight as rat arses.

There's no Christmas buzz at all, i was so disappointed last year.

I've given up on Christmas since coming here, you're right, its just pish, and doesn't feel right at all.

I'm really looking forward to our first Aussie xmas, we too will probably do the cliche thing of beach, barbie and pool but our son will be 18 months old at christmas and probably very hyper opening presents which will be fantastic and we will have a 4 week old baby girl to share the day with as well and that's what xmas is about isn't it, the kiddies!

I will be watching my dvd copy of The Snowman - much to OH's chagrin - and mentally transporting myself to a British christmas that didn't even exist back home

On a positive note, at least over here we don't have to sit through 9 hours of 'Jesus of Nazerus'. My moneys on Forrest Gump for the afternoon film (just for a change, I don't think it's been shown before )

Seriously though, I do much prefer Christmas here. Gimme a barbie and a pav instead of Christmas dinner any day.

One thing I thought was kind of cool here during my first xmas last year...the malls and supermarkets play a lot of proper old fashioned christmas carols in the lead up to the big day. So you don't have to listen to 'i wish it could be christmas every day' 436 times inside the space of a month. Mind you I do actually love all the pop xmas tunes too!

Santa is even stripping down to shorts and singlet in someplaces. It has really become to commercialised since I was a kid. Just now feels like a couple of days off work.

Sounds good to me - as long as santa is a sexy mofo

I'd even opt to sit on his knee

I love Christmas, I just hate the OTT behaviour in the UK. Aus is getting nearly as bad (with the stuff in the shops months too early) but the fact I can get a park and then shop easily in Woolies/fruit barn/butcher etc on Christmas Eve to do my shopping is fantastic.

Christmas specials, decoration sales start rolling out in shops just after Easter is over. Easter specials, decorations, chocolates, buns roll out just after Christmas. Who said that Christianity is underexploited?

I must have been more drunk each Christmas day than I thought. Ok, lets replace Nazerus with 'Zulu'
