If I started getting chickens and growing veggies my friends back in the UK(and daughter for that matter) would think I had really cracked up - I wouldn't see them for dust - no thank you very much, I like to move with the times - don't want to go backwards (in my opinion)!

You would be surprised how many people in G B are now growing veg in their gardens and keeping chickens,sales of seeds have increased 100% in last year
Both my siblings had rampant veggie gardens - with lovely tomatoes, runner beans, potatoes, herbs etc. Last time I was there, their gardens consisted only of grass. Apparantly that Hugh Fearnley-Whatshisname has a big following in his campaign for local, home-grown produce. |

From what I understand from the peak oil situation.. growing veggies and not relying on stuff that has travelled from afar, it is, indeed, the future... history always tends to repeat on us doesnt it? ;)
Em x http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/8213617.stm Urban allotments. We can learn alot from the Cubans, as we'll all be doing the same if oil goes t*ts up before they come up with a good alternative. |

Is all Australia like this or just here in Canberra? Help!!

Just find people like you. I have never been one of those who discussed children, knitting, sewing, cooking etc and I have surrounded myself with friends who are the same as me. There are plenty of women in Australia who are like me and my friends. I do have children but of the opinion that although they were interesting to me they may not be to other people. :D
I have brought my daughter up like me and she is anti all that stuff too. No girls in the kitchen and boys at the barbie for me and I have lived here over 30 years now. Moved to Brissie 3 weeks ago and so far have yet to hear 1 cookery conversation..........love it!!!! |

Something happened in the last few years, and all women born in the late Seventies and early Eighties turned into Stepford Wives. Sorry, they're 'Domestic Goddesses' apparently.:sneaky::sneaky: I thought I was the only one who didn't understand the attraction. It's driving me crazy. |

Went to my first Tupperware party 3 weeks ago! Jesus that stuff is expensive. Plus the pressure put upon me to host my own party! Really annoyed about that. They are so pushy and have no shame. I am quite shy and hate that kind of nonsense but i'm also Irish and as soon as I feel pushed into a situation I don't like my stubborn side kicks up! So refused point blank to host one. Sadly the girl who was hosting said party missed out on an "awsome" gift because of it. This was very awkward as she is in my Mums group and I see her once a month, plus she is a nice girl but all the same... My friend is having one next Sunday and I will go but i'm not going to any party like that again. It's just not a normal way to spend an evening :) As for the veggies, i'm all for people growing their own and giving me their extras but it's so not for me. |

Chuck got off her eggs yesterday. Currently they're under the desk lamp in a box. One came out last night others still cheeping in their eggs so hopefully more to come.
Oops! Wrong thread :unsure: |

:rofl::rofl:
Got a txt from my mate re her tupper party on Sat. Said I was definitely going but please don't expect me to book a party. She was fine with that..she has tons of loaded friends anyhow so I guess with all their orders she might rack up enough to be entitled to an "awesome" gift without having to have 2 parties booked as well. I mean FFS, is this not like pyramid selling or that Bernie Madoff fella in the states?? What's the difference here? Rounding up your mates to shame them into buying pink bottles (from which I am sipping now lol!) and in turn you then round up your mates on the promise of some cheap plonk and cabana in order to get them to buy up big too? BC World don't get me started on those fecken Enjo cloth thingies...I was at a bbq a few months back and my mate was raving on about this cloth, how great it was, no need for washing up liquid and other stuff etc etc. I was quite intrigued and asked for more info, only to be told that the woman standing right beside her was "the local rep" :o I reckon I was that close to being rounded up for a party but thank god for my attention starved toddler who was about to throw herself through a window if I didn't get over to her pronto. Emelems: you have no idea what goes on out in the 'burbs or the sticks for that matter. These women have no shame! I need to take a leaf out of their book to be sure. Anyway Tupperware rep promised to make us some "awsome" brownies in the microwave using tupperware, so roll on Sat arvo! Not... PMSL @ Martin Luther lol! |
