Stepped back in time?lol Sounds like you're way BEHIND the times to me!You know 30 years ago,I walked out of a supermarket, trolley laden with food, cleaning products ect and figured it was the last time I was going to do that.I revamped the garden, fenced off some for a chook yard, put in some big veggie plots, planted a herb garden, fruit tree's,grapevine, passionfruit vine, you name it I had it!lol I then borrowed some library books on how to make your own eco friendly cleaning products (including yes clothes washing gel)so sorry all this yacking about growing your own, being green is all old hat to us hippy types!;)The only food type shop I visit now is the butchers! Its very liberating to go back to the basic way of living, its also fullfilling and gives you a sense of being in charge of your life!Did you know you can wash your clothes in the car whilst driving?lol Thats another story!Embrace it,its the way forward!;)

Each to their own I guess. That kind of life sounds like a nightmare to me I'm afraid, but then I always was weird. I can kill plants just by looking at them and I'm allergic to chickens. :p

Re: Is there something wrong with me??
My DH (and DS) are permaculture self sufficiency freaks - me, personally, I like to get my lettuces without slugs and my apples preferably without buggy type things in the middle. For all that they witter on about organic meat, I really cant taste the difference and unlike them I will not kill stuff just to eat it. So I agree with the OP - gardening is not my scene either but I do admit to being a closet knitter - more because I cant do just one thing at a time and I do like to see myself achieving something (I stitch too for the relaxation) while I do other things like watch movies etc.

Re: Is there something wrong with me??
Permaculture is pretty big where I live too... I have gone "all green" since moving here.. hardly ever use a supermarket and grow as much food as I can.. I have my own plot in a communial garden and although they're exceptionally nice people over there, I was a bit suprised how snobby some can be over life style..
I was listening to one speaker telling us how to plant up our backyards for food and she started slagging off those who want a nice green lawn or block paving with the 4x4 on the drive.. total green snob I thought.. nothing wrong with having a patch of grass for the kids to kick a football about on, is there?! Or have a decent motor... ? I draw the line at making my own clothes.. or my kids clothes.. infact I own several items that are chucked at the bottom of the laundry basket because I am way too lazy to sew even the buttons back on.. the last time i knitted a little cardi for a new neice was back in 1992... she is now 17 and I am not even halfway through.. Re: Is there something wrong with me??
If I started getting chickens and growing veggies my friends back in the UK(and daughter for that matter) would think I had really cracked up - I wouldn't see them for dust - no thank you very much, I like to move with the times - don't want to go backwards (in my opinion)!

Re: Is there something wrong with me??
I defy any "greeny" to grow so much as a single spud in my garden... I'm pretty close to the sea and my soil has all the organic properties of wire wool.

Re: Is there something wrong with me??
I have tried to grow veggies.
But the hot weather comes and makes anything green drop over dead:confused: and bugs come in plague form here, then if anything survives that lot, some bloody possum will eat the rest. As for candles and scrapbooking, I am with polly, get me outta here:eek: |
