It is not a matter of birthplace it is a matter of personal self identity.
These Australian people do not call themselves Australian, do not have loyalty to Australia and in many cases outright HATE Australia. They do not speak English at home and many of them have served in their parents military.
I know 4 Serbian descended 'Australians' who volunteered to serve in the Serbian military when they was no requirement for them to do so. WHY? Because they are SERBIAN. If you called then Australian they would break your nose.
There is no racial/ethnic unity in Australia, there are tribes. The dominant one is the Anglo-Celtic one and this is the mainstream face of Australia. Do not blame them for the actions of the other tribes that actively seek to undermine and attack Australia. Those who despise Australia and Anglo society.

However the even more violent counter attack which involved stabbings and attempted rape(maybe successful in some cases?) was completely the domain of Muslim Lebanese.

yes, of course it was. Let's hope those good old "Anglo Celtic" Aussies can finally put an end to those nasty Muslim Lebanese thugs this Australia day, hey?

Did you go to Bankstown Public High School? Did your sister get gangraped? Did you get a knife in your back?
Have you been spat on and bottles thrown at you walking along the main streets in Bankstown?
No, you are living in QLD which has a fraction of the ethnic and religious conflict that Western Sydney has.

But I have had a knife pulled on me in London, litterally on my doorstep as I was going into my flat by a man of Afro-Carribean origin. Does that mean I spend the rest of my life racially prejudicing people of the same origin. Certainly not.
Those are all awful things. But is the way to address this really to go out there on almost Neo-Nazi style counter attacks? It sounds like you are justifying the actions of the Aussie Pride Gangs in doing so
The aftermath investigation by police showed that most of the Aussie Pride gangs that were involved in the riots actually had no idea what sparked it. There were heaps of Chinese whisper style rumours about that day when the life guards were beaten up, some as proposterous that the life guards saved the life of a muslim woman and began giving her mouth to mouth resus, when a bunch of "Lebanese guys" began beating them up for "disrespecting them". This was found to be the most common reason the "Aussie Pride Gang" gave for the retaliation. This was of course completely and utterly incorrect. The NSW Polive investigation actually showed that the life guards were off duty, not in uniform and began a verbal slanging match with some local "Lebanese" boys. A fight broke out and the off-duty life guards came off worst sparking the rest of the riots.
My point is, much of that week's events were misreported both by the media and also the perpetrators and this lead to the rest of the events. So your first question about "you don't live in Western Sydney, so what would you know?" is somewhat valid, however as shown from the above police investigation most of the people actually involved didn't seem to actually know what was going on. Therefore we need to be careful when claiming events that took place without actually having proven facts in front of you, especially when the subject is as explosive as race.

Surprise surprise. When there is an opportunity to justify racial vilification or even homophobia iamthecreaturefromurbigotryanus is in the middle of it

What I actually commented on was you. "he thinks he knows it bloody all when anything to do with ethnic tensions is brought up"
I didn't see anything in your previous post to change that opinion.

If you want to then try and justify your statement from the above then that is your choice. All I know is that my belief is based off history and what we can learn from it. Violence has proven that it does not put a stop to anything, it actually accentuates the problem and only delays the next bout of trouble (Kosovo and Serbia being a very topical example of this). Tit for tat attacks will go on forever unless more diplomatic measures are taken.

Well given that my degree in European Studies, <snip> but I will show more interest in this domain than the average man on the street.

This "why can't we all just get along" mantra is pure fantasy.

I'm curious to know, has this kind of 'crowd trouble' ever been experienced at tournaments outside of Australia? I can't think of any.

My wife converted me to tennis. Watching it.
