Are they? They might be, but I haven't seen this confirmed by anyone. Either way, it's irrelevant. They've made it clear where their true loyalties lie. They're not attacking the Czechs because Australians have a grudge against Czechs. They're attacking the Czechs because they're Croats with a grudge against Czechs.
Of course they're Australians. But they're Croat Australians. The whole problem stems from Croatian antipathy towards Czechoslovakia. It does not stem from Australian antipathy towards Czechoslovakia.
That's why - and follow me closely here - the only people causing this trouble are people from the Croatian community.

Lets stick to the Federal definition. Everyone born in Australia to either a PR or Citizen is 'an Australian'. Don't create groupism by calling people Croat Australians, Indian Australian or Turkish Australian

it is utterly embarassing. was mentioned on BBC R5 Live over night.
So much for the 'Happy Slam'.
Unfortuantely it is bored, confused kids born in Australia to 1st generation Coration migrants who have been brought up to think it is cool to hate Serbs / Bosnians / Turks / Greeks whatever.
Football has cleaned up it's act and their only outlet is the first couple days at the Tennis.
The headline grabbing quotes from Police Chiefs and Politicains mean nothing. No charges were laid and i think i read 2, TWO $200 odd fines were dished out.
Pathetic all round.

If the troublemakers were Australians of varying backgrounds, there might be something to talk about. But Croats who hate Czechs? Since when was that news?
And what, precisely, is your point?
And look at your list! Ethnic groups with a history of animosity towards certain other ethnic groups and poor integration. Wow, how unsurprising!
Did you have a point as well? If so, what was it?
How many other types of Australians were abusing the Czechs? German Australians? Nope. Dutch Australians? Nope. Vietnamese Australians? Nope. Chinese Australians? Nope. Italian Australians? Nope. Australians from any of the other 46 nations from which the majority of our immigrants originate? Nope. Just the Croatian Australians. Only the Croatian Australians.
Starting to see a pattern?

It's bloody obvious what my (and other peoples) points are. When do you decide that an Australian is 'Australian' and when they are 'A Croat Australian'.
When talking about Dokic, do Australians say she's a 'Serb-Croat Australian', no of course they bloody don't. Because she represents a positive Aussie image.
It's the same as saying Muslim extremists born in the UK are 'Pakistani British' (or whatever their parents/grandparents/great-grandparents country of origin was). They're British. They were born in the UK and as such are British. The same as with the 'Australians' involved at the tennis would have been born in Australia, and are Australians.
Absurd argument. Take the blinkers off for gods sake.

Rules on Australian Australians by Vash the Stampede
1.0
Any person of foreign birth who is decent, upstanding and good at sport shall be known as 'Australian'
1.1
Any person who suddenly becomes a bit crap at sport and generally doesn't fit in with 'Australian ideals' is a bloody 'foreign Australian'

Its true though. If some migrant wins laurels in any field for Australia, he gets great respect and the proud 'Australian' status.
Otherwise he's just a 'person of ___ origin'. I think many Australians think this way

How is it a cop-out? It's the plain bloody truth. You've got a tiny number of hooligans from a tiny ethnic minority causing trouble because of old prejudices which they've imported from their mother country. That's indisputable. It's not something you can use to discredit the entire nation.
If the troublemakers were Australians of varying backgrounds, there might be something to talk about. But Croats who hate Czechs? Since when was that news?

I was referring specifically to the events at the Australian Open. I didn't wasn't referring to every incident at every sporting event throughout the entire history of Australia. Good grief, get real.
And look at your list! Ethnic groups with a history of animosity towards certain other ethnic groups and poor integration. Wow, how unsurprising!
Did you have a point as well? If so, what was it?
The ones who integrate properly and leave their ancient, irrelevant squabbles behind in the countries from which they and their parents originated. People who recognise that Australia is a multicultural nation where some pointless East European feud from 300 years ago has no place in society.

So yes, I will get real. Will you?
