My understanding is that Netflix are using two mechanisms for blocking. First is the usual 'known VPN IP address' basis, and the second is if your IP address bounces around the world too fast (eg 'nope you didn't just travel from Oz to the US to the UK all within 3 mins').
The first is a game of whack-a-mole and VPN companies just need a supply of IP addresses to defeat. The second is defeated by just not bothering with anywhere but the US and leaving it fixed there. Neither are likely to work, nor to be the final word on this. I expect other strategies are up various sleeves - if only to look good. I'm still confused as to how Netflix still works on my Rokus and Android TV though? |

Now SmartyDNS has disappeared! ? WTF!!!

Re: Streaming video - my experience
My acer revo not responding or be able to recognise a mouse or keyboard is now a serious issue.
I think I've got to remove the internal HD to get this to work again. I'm a software fixer not a hardware bod. I've tried everything I've got at home, in terms of plugging things into it. Wireless and direct....No response and online I can only find keyboard solutions so as to reset and reinstall the OS. So I'm stuffed, which also tells me if all of those fail, to remove the HD.... Then the Keyboard and mouse should be recognised. I wouldn't mind but the whole thing is properly cabled in with cable covers and cable ties on about 15 different cables. So it's a real 'mare. I have to pull all of those apart just to get to the power supply. Thats one for the memory banks... always keep the power supply apart from the Cable tidy arrays. It boots up ok and closes down fine via the power switch, but that's the only response I can get out of the damn thing. Oh and the USB ports are recognising inputs as it says installing device software when I plug different mouse and keyboard systems into it. No response though. Bugger it !!!!!!!!!!! |

My main CAD workstation is stuck in a start-up repair loop and I have been trying to sort it out for most of the day. I need it to do some work and really don't want to have to format and reinstall everything |
Re: Streaming video - my experience
At under $43 this may be worth a look as kodi is preinstalled and you get an HDMI cable thrown in:
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/231512 My experience of these kind of devices has been generally positive as they seem to have none of the restrictions or limitations of the kit put out by mainstream manufacturers - yes, I'm looking at you Sony and Apple I'll probably get one |

It's the Bios or the Hard Drive for sure. Had to reinstall and reconfigure Kodi and on my Amazon fire box today.... that was easy. |

I was able to install Kodi on top and it runs a treat. The DVD drive is not region locked (not that I use it much any more TBH) I also have Steam for gaming as well. As you say, no messing about with the limitations that the manufacturers place on your kit - just run it in the way that you want. Of course, you need to learn a bit to get it going, but I'm very happy with my setup now. Once you have got it set up and running, it's great. S |

S A HTPC like a NUC or a mini-PC is the way to go for a one box solution as there are virtually none of the restrictions you get with Apple/Chromecast/Amazon Fire etc. Easily customisable to your needs and with Plex or Kodi installed, everything you could possibly want in one spot Chromecast or Apple TV are great for the technologically challenged but anyone with a bit of interest in this area can readily get a better solution Now I've got to get this f**king workstation going........... |

SmartyDNS is fully operational
Just watched a movie on Smartflix (Netflix - but better) with no problems One thing I did suss out though was I grabbed a temporary Unotelly account and it was significantly slower than SmartyDNS. BBC iPlayer was all stoppy starty therefore unwatchable but when SmartyDNS returned it was playing nice and smooth. |

I had a free trial on another DNS provider (can't remember name) and it wouldn't run 4oD and iplayer was juddery. SmartyDNS is the bomb I've managed to fix my workstation - thank you Hirens boot CD! |
