Re: Streaming video - my experience
I'm liking what I see with Netflix Australia. It's well priced and the starting content is good - and will only get better
It will be interesting to see how Foxtel react, because react they must
Just finished Bosch - top show and I hope they make more

I'll take up a Netflix subscription. I've been watching Knights of Sidonia lately, so will carry on without having to torrent.

BTW, if you are getting your ADSL from Telstra, it looks like the recent stack of developments has pushed them into doubling the data limits on home ADSL broadband. Some went up last weekend, some this, and some next.
Log in and see if it tells you your download limit has been raised.
That should make it easier on those downloading TV/Movies etc. from various services.

I just went to cancel my Foxtel and they gave me an awesome deal on the sports + all the channels I currently watch.
Let the price war commence

"15 Mbit by 2023 is all the average household will need", they said. Only problem is Netflix is here and now and it's 4K streaming takes 16Mbit at the very minimum (practically it needs 20+). Scroll forward even 3 years and demand is going to exceed 25mbits. The Turnbull's NBN will be obsolete before it's even rolled out.
And the corruption is not even going to save Murdoch's satellite TV business - people have been phoning up to drop Foxtel in droves as Netflix comes onto the market.

Then there's Kodi.... I'm playing with it right now. I'll feedback re the video add ons later in the week.
Thats XBMC's upgrade, which is now the most user friendly version yet. KODI.
In fact Aldi are selling a media box with Kodi as the Platform from next week.... actually make that from tomorrow.
This should knock everyone off their perch.... I'll let you know

Re: Streaming video - my experience
I would love it if we were getting the full fibre to the home but it was going to cost vastly more than budgeted seeing as our previous socialist government insisted on running it themselves and giving the work to companies dominated by their union buddies - and as they had also run up a huge mumbo jumbo welfare deficit, totally unaffordable

Here's an article on how the NBN costs were not what was quoted in the press, and that indeed the FTTP rollout was due to hit it's budget (eg not blowing out the budget)
Melbourne fibre expert calls out 'fibre cost doubled' claim • The Register
Meanwhile, not only is the Turnbull FTTN hack going to be later, with obsolete capability, its also looking to cost $100bn of the next 30 years, because Telstra is still in there, stinking up the price with their corroded copper.
The NBN fibre cost shock | Business Spectator
Honestly, it's looking like the best bet is going to be for estates to DIY, provided Telstra can be held in check by future (non-insane) governments.

Should anyone be contemplating signing up with "Stan" for their free 30 day trial, it is also possible to get a Chromecast dongle for $29.05 at the moment, redeemable at Dick Smith
