My youngest will never forgive SWMBO () for giving away > 5 years of his Beanos. But I think I did manage to sneak some away and stash them in the loft for him

You're being disingenuous now. You know full well what universal free education means.
Of course it has to be paid for by taxpayers, but those who cannot afford to pay to get their children educated, still get their children educated for free. They can even get free uniforms and free lunches.
Its available in practically in every western country, and many other countries too.

Ok - I did a very quick search on the subject before I have to run -
Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Brazil - all offer free universal free education
Australia, England and Germany - offer (or have offered) some form of universal free education....
so it isnt practically "all of the western countries" merely a few with very liberal social policies the rest of the world (including canada) have a long way to go to catch up to them.....
Nite now....

Re: Sterilise the underclass
There are scholarships, financial aid, loans etc available for those who can prove need....but free - not on your life.....our taxes are high enough; we couldnt afford to offer free universal free education".....what countries have this - can you tell me - I would be very interested....

Re: Sterilise the underclass
Im certainly not being disingenuous at all. Are you talking about at the grade and high school or university? We certainly DO NOT have "universal free education" at the university level in canada. The universities in canada are funded by taxpayers both federally and provincially. Tuition, books, supplies and boarding is paid for by the parents (students). There are scholarships, financial aid, loans etc available for those who can prove need....but free - not on your life.....our taxes are high enough; we couldnt afford to offer free universal free education".....what countries have this - can you tell me - I would be very interested....
Think about it, if Universal meant University, then everyone would go to University, whether they were suitable or not.
I honestly don't believe you didn't know what the phrase Free Universal Education meant.
I better not mention Free Universal Healthcare in some countries or you'll be claiming they have to pay for elective plastic surgery, therefore, not free.

I think you are mistaking 'Universal' with 'University'. Free Universal education in many western countries, is until the age of 16, in others its to 18.

I don't think a university education can be compared with plastic surgery. One is mostly motivated by vanity and the other mostly by the desire to get on in life.

Re: Sterilise the underclass
The analogy was more to show what Free and Universal is, without encompassing everything. Education like Health, is free and Universal in many western countries, but with certain obvious limits. ie. elective Plastic Surgery is not free, University Education is not free (with a few exceptions).
No-one would want every person, suitable or not to attend University. Thats why its not free, though many from a poor background who demonstrate the abilities required can get bursaries and scholarships.

Too generous Baby Bonuses have encouraged inappropriate people to reproduce and their children grow up on Junk food and Junk TV - ignorant savages. Of course this does not apply to all children and all parents; but to the growing under class.
