The red tape seems to vary depending on the state. Just because you have been accepted on a certain skill there is no guarentee that you will walk into a job using it.
Personally based on whats happened to us there is no way in hell I would come here unless a job was already lined up. If you are comming here and financially need to be in emplyment quickly to survive I would be very nervous.

I must admit I do think this is right, but when YOU'RE the outsider I guess you wish it wasn't!
For the Gold Coast anyway (all I can go on!) trades are sooooo in demand they'll take on anyone!
Oh and don't forget the other bit here ... it's not WHAT you know, but WHO you know and have experience with this. Me Nic, and my daughter have all got jobs via a friend, or a friend of a friend in the past, yet not a lot of joy through the likes of SEEK.

And I thought I was used to the hot stuff... tried a Madras last week and it was almost as hot...!

again, may depend whereabouts in the country you are. every place OH has worked he's found they like Poms because they work hard and arent tossing it off or having smokos every half hour.

The majority of employers I've worked for would rather have a hard working immigrant than an Aussie that chucks a sickie whenever the surfs up or the fish are biting. This of course could just be due to our location on the coast, though I'm sure it would apply around the entire coastline.
There are a few exceptions as I've also lost work for being a pom, mainly from redneck inbreeds though that hate anyone that isn't "first fleet" descended.

We (K) frequently have hot curries. We've never had a problem
