Not that easy, it would mean making the aboriginals get jobs and

a) it will never happen
b) it would be "racist".

It does cost money for certain trades to get licenced, but it's not just the 'poms' who pay, Aussies have to pay the same fees.
With all due respect , I have lived in Australia 28 years this year and in some parts of Oz antipom sentiment can and does happen. There are of course places where it doesn't happen . If you havent'been a victim of it then all well and good, but my dad coped alot when he came over in the early 70s and we lived in Sydney.

We've tried 3 on the Goldie and have given up! ... ALL crap!

You ask for a Vindaloo and are told "you know that'll be hot!" ... err ... yeah, I know! ... and I think they just smother with Chilli sauce or sommit which ok, DOES make it hot! ... but taste like cack too!

We need the population, the birth rate is very low unlike the UK where they appear to be breeding like rabbits!

It's not that easy on the unempolyment benefets in OZ , lots of hoop jumping and quite right too. If you are young they don't make it an easy option.

Thankyou for making my point. Me saying that there is absolutely no anti-pom sentiments is as stupid as Arkon saying there is and you can't get work because of it. Not everyone on here is self employed are they?

I'm sorry your Dad found some ignorant people - they are everywhere no doubt about it. My Aunt had some problems when she first moved here (I think she said 26 years ago, it's something like that anyhow), but only from a very small minority of people. She doesn't get it any more though, and she still sounds Yorkshire

why shouldnt they get jobs?

there are plenty of, how shall I word this, people from other ethnic groups that sit on their arses all day claiming money. unless someone has a severe disability or illness that prevents them from working i can't understand how they get away with it.

The whole skilled migration thing is just a con to make money. Protectionism and anti pom sentiment make it very hard to actually use your skills here unless you can become self employed in them.
i am a little worried my husband is a plasterer and we are looking to come over is there no jobs even though they are crying out for it?

I completely agree with this comment my husband has to work 65 plus hours to make ends met and i have worked since i was 14 and we have nothing really to show for it we have our own home but thats about it, because it goes on lazy people that come over here and dont do anything and we are not doing nothing about it so thats why we are looking to work and earn a good life in oz

It's not the lack of jobs, more the red tape thats the issue.

He might not be able to work cause his shoes are the wrong colour.

I can only speak for the Gold Coast and ALL tradies find a good paying job easy enough. Well, certainly 'experienced' one's, but even I seem to be able to bluff my way into a 'Trade Assistant' job ...
