[QUOTE=Stokesy;6103965]Hello. I am sick of this place. I am sick of the weather, sick of all the useless, feckless lumps in society who can't be bothered to work. All the useless young men hanging around the shopping mall in the middle of the day when they should be working. Sick of dog poo round my area and kids hanging about smoking in their designer trainers and tracksuits whilst their parents probably spend their money on fags and beer instead of giving their kids a good diet. I am sick of political correctness where you can get put away for giving a cheeky scoundrel a clip round the ear. I am sick of the suing culture. I am sick of selfish people who park in mother and child spaces just because they want to park right outside the supermarket. I am sick of a society where no one speaks to their neighbours and we all live in our own little boxes with scant regard for anyone else.

Australia has more litigation cases per capita than any other country in the world, that's why its become the biggest control freak nanny country I have ever been to. If you're a free spirit and bit of a maverick don't come here it'll drive you bonkers. If you need or like to conform to ridiculous amount of pedantic rules then this place may suit you.

oh dear not a good time for you then!!!!!!

where did you live and what did you do?
if you have a job that is a "social justice" based career then yes you see it all and it does taint your views. there are some annoying things about australia and it depends what your values are. but i don't ever feel my free spirit is under threat here, as i like outdoor stuff i feel much more free really as the weather very rarely interferes with what we are doing.

Everything you think you hate about the UK can be found here. Utopia doesn't exist and would be deathly dull if it did.

I agree about the weather though. Sounds like it's been a fairly rubbish 12 months and I don't do cold weather, makes me ill.

Totally agree. They are both great countries. Each with their positives and negatives. It's just that I prefer to live here.

I always like the phrase "same S**T shinier shovel!

I prefer to live here too. I can live to work and NOT work to live here.

Tuesday, signs of other human beings or aggravation ... none ... likely to continue so, 3 and a half acres, working from home, horses wandering around, ducks, chickens, sun is shining, no mossies, just had my first ice cream of the day, might go for a swing on the garden chair later with a book.

Now, a few more Kiwi wickets would just make the day dandy-o.

Brisbane or Brighton?

Hahahahahaha!

Bloody cheer up - you're convinced you're stuck here - might as well just get on with it. You waited long enough for the permanent job so you'll have to stick in or get another one. Just becasue you're married, doesn't mean you HAVE to stay. No kids, no mortgage, no ties - if it was me I'd call it a day and cheer myself up by going back to the UK - at least you'd (maybe) be a bit happier. If I hated it that much, no amount of "I'm married" would stop me going back.

i have been in the exact place that you are. i couldn't stand being here in australia and blamed my situation on myself for being married to my husband who loved it..i won in the end and we went back. it may be that you will both have to give and take some how. but i know that i have times where i get really negative about australia and it's a downward spiral and gets out of control. i don't have a top tip to help you where you are but just be gentle with yourself and try not to focus on it too much. life has a weird way of twisting and turning. but at the end of the day you can't live a sad life for ever something will give. you deserve to be happy:thumbup:

I have, but not to the point of being detrimental to my sanity :) - and it should work both ways

5 wickets will do nicely ... might even work from home again tomorrow to catch the end of the game.

Major incident earlier, the washing machine stopped a good 3 hours ago and I haven't hung the clothes out yet because I've been too busy watching a Joe Strummer documentary ... more news on the crisis as it comes in.

<pokes head out of window> It's still as blue as you like up there, all you UK peeps come on over. As long as you ain't expecting total utopia it'll be juuuuust fine, I mean SURELY nobody is duped by those documentaries any more?

(edit) The washing is out now.

maybe you did live in the Ayrshire equivalent of Ramsay Street but it isn't like that round here. You shouldn't say other people's opinions are crap - it's rude.

before this turns into a slagging match can we please remember that having good neighbours is pretty much down to luck.

some may be great, they move and you end up with a-holes and the reverse can happen.
