No reason why there shouldn't be one.

Picking up your MO: "so you reckon French tourism has suffered due to the lack of a royal family, do you?"

so you would keep the Changing of The Guard purely for tourism reasons, which would in itself be celebrating a royal family we just got rid of?
If by keeping the changing of the guard you are admitting to their ability to draw tourism

Not officially she's not BS, she likes to think she is, officially, she was never crowed or signed Queen of Scotland, just Engerland.

The French kept their palaces.

The Americans kept the changing of the guard.

"Are you saying that they're celebrating the royal family, are you?"

Come on. How often does a royal appear in the Changing of the Guard, eh?

Who are you talking about - the Royals or the New Labour 'socialists'?

We ARE talking about the monarchy here, not politicians - can't you read?

of course they are celebrating it. Why else would they keep it?

It's got nothing to do with a Royal turning up to the changing of the guard. If the Royal Family were no more then I could pretty much guarantee that there would not be as many people turning up to see it as the ceremony would be fake and unmeaningful. To actually know that they ARE protecting the Queen means it has a higher importance.

How many foreigners actually go to St Paul's just because that's where Charles & Di got hitched? How many more would go if Prince William got married there?
