"A family friend of Mr Duggan, who gave her name only as Nikki, 53, said the man's friends and relatives had organised the protest because "something has to be done" and the marchers wanted "justice for the family."
"They're making their presence known because people are not happy," she added. "This guy was not violent. Yes, he was involved in things but he was not an aggressive person. He had never hurt anyone."
yeah, right... and I suppose the gun he was carrying was a Nerf Gun?

The 'other side' is saying stuff like:
Seems the cops were doing the typical cop thing and lying about/covering up the details of the shooting to save their skins (they shot this guy multiple times in the head while he was restrained, apparently). A crowd of people had waited peacefully outside the station for answers as to the incident, but got nothing but a wall of riot police in full armor. When a 16-year-old girl walked up to the cops and started yelling at them, they answered by laying into her with their batons. This made the crowd more than a little angry; cue rioting.
However the reality is probably going to end up somewhere in between with the police going in, guns blazing, shooting up a probably guilty man, then overacting when people start turning up asking questions, and making things worse because of their arse-covering attitude. That seems to be the common refrain Met policing.
Maybe if those officers guilty of murder were arrested and tried properly, people might be more likely to give the 'justice' system a chance. However instances like Ian Tomlinson gives nobody confidence in the system, and hence creates this type of event in consequence.

Times is Murdoch tripe. We will find out the truth whatever the events were. The met has proved to be full of crap in the past. I look forward to the full story.
I thought the Telegraph and Times had to be discounted as they're right-wing rags? The Telegraph is carrying the same quote as in most papers.

Well things must be very different where you are, one of our mates has transferred to the bush because things were so bad, another today told us he had transferred to the water Police as it was safer. Cops here get abused and assaulted daily.
I think some just assume things are so much worse there or so much better here, it seems to go hand in hand with migrating which makes sense.

a few of us were watching a UK cop programe and mentioned no one has any respect for the UK cops anymore. The cops shit themselves in case the PC brigade fine them or make a mountain out of a molehill for doing their job. It's not worth the trouble doing their job or the right thing anymore.
