I take Pariet which costs me about $30 for 30 tablets. Do you buy yours online?

No, from the chemist down the street. 14 tablets of SuvAcid for $11.95, so a month for $24.

I was on a maintenance dose of Nexium, but I had to get a script for it, and it just came off of the PBS, so was full price - nearly $36 for 28 tabs. The over the counter stuff is just as effective, and is also much cheaper. More convenient all round.

I looked at online pharmacies, but the P&P costs seem to eat into the saving.

Used to have shares in Zantac, I downed so much. Then, last August, gave up wheat and dairy and havent had a Zantac since. I think it is the wheat which gave me the reflux but just in case, I remain gluten and dairy free. It isnt the end of the world that I feared it might be! Other benefit (to DH at least) is that I almost immediately stopped snoring and have stopped having sleep apnoea as well.

The newer one I, and several other I know, are on is Pariet or rabeprazole. Its a PPI and works brilliantly. No side effects.

Yes, was about to suggest allergy/intolerance tests too. Big believer in treating the cause, not the symptoms.

Mine was down to major stomach ulcers attempting to explode. Well one was, the other one was only slightly bleeding heavily.

Yeah, my Mum virtually lived on Gaviscon after she'd had an ulcer "explode" in the early 1980s. She was a bugger for putting half a pound of butter on everything, had a good old-fashioned Yorkshire diet (lots of dairy and red meat) and paid the consequences. She had a similar thing happen last April and never really recovered.

If you're overweight, losing the excess helps with all sorts of things, including reflux.

Some reflux information sites:
http://www.abc.net.au/health/library...25/1831764.htm
http://www.gastro.net.au/diets/reflux.html
http://daa.asn.au/for-the-public/sma...z/indigestion/
http://www.virtualmedicalcentre.com/...-Disease;-GORD)
http://www.healthinsite.gov.au/topic...Disease__GORD_

Not GORD, but another stomach condition - Have you been tested for Helicobacter pylori?
http://www.gesa.org.au/pdf/H_Pylori_2nd_03.pdf
http://www.australiandoctor.com.au/p...cterpylori.pdf

I have also found that almost giving up bread helps - this could be due to two effects: less irritation from wheat products which for some reason is a problem for me in Australia, and it also would help lose weight (as long as you're careful what you eat instead, or just reduce your overall intake).

Thanks for the advice everyone.

After I've eliminated the obvious like spicy food, alcohol, coffee and chocolate I guess the rest will be trial and error.

Is it true that milk causes reflux?

Does anyone know of a good morning beverage that doesn't cause reflux problems?

Back to the doc on Friday and hopefully a good solution.

My GI doc prescribed that for my acid relflux (Nexium). After several months I noticed if I forgot to take it first thing in the morning I could feel the acid building up. I looked at a few forums and saw that others experienced the same thing. The GI doc also mentioned that it can prevent the body absorbing calcium...something that as a woman I didn't want to happen. I stopped taking it and the morning acid build up disappeared.

I find if I eat a good diet I'm OK. If I eat junk food ie bread, chocolate and alcohol then I get acid reflux. I feel much better managing acid reflux myself with a good diet rather than taking meds.

To those that are considering an endoscopy I just wanted to mention that it's nothing to fear and just a mild bit of discomfort as the tube is introduced ... They let me have a gander at the scope, it's quite educational actually.

My symptoms were a rising burning sensation after meals and the occasional regurgitation of food ... Now, enjoy your morning tea

I agree...I had an endoscopy a few years ago. My throat was a little raspy for a couple of days afterwards. A few days later I found out why...suspect cells had been removed which were pre-cancerous. Thank god my GI doc sent me for the endoscopy...it was just a routine test...I had no symptoms and only suffered from acid reflux every now and then.

I slept through all of mine, even the colonoscopy which was a bonus I think.

Thanks all.

Looks like a yummy glass of luke warm water and maybe some rice crackers for morning tea.
