Is this for real?
I read this article this morning about how they are trying to de-criminalise abortion in NSW and how one doctor was actually charged for performing an illegal abortion.
http://news.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=8101690 So do women 'state jump' if they want a termination? It has been said those opposed to changing the rules fear more abortions will be carried out but surely you can't force a woman to go through a pregnancy and at the end of the day, everyones situation is personal to them. I never knew it was illegal there, imagine having to make that hard decision and then be made to feel like a criminal into the bargain, I guess the government think that by not allowing it, people won't do it. Very sad situation when the State can rule what happens to a womans body. |
Re: Is this for real?
Illegal in QLD too, was pretty surprised when I found out. I believe it's a woman's right to decide what happens to her body!

Re: Is this for real?
It's even worse in Qld. They are prosecuting a woman who had an abortion, let alone the doctor.

Re: Is this for real?
I think that it's as illegal as it is elsewhere. Plenty of women get abortions in NSW, but they have to fulfill the same criteria.. that being that the welfare of the mother is at risk, or her mental state etc... and that more than one doctor sign off on this... which then makes it legal...
AFAIK, this used to be the case in the UK too. This website looks like it's fairly up to date: http://www.childrenbychoice.org.au/nwww/auslawprac.htm Seems to be 'illegal' everywhere but ACT, but its still performed. And yes, women do state jump to ACT if their termination is refused. |

But I agree, every person has the right to decide for themselves, not the government. |
Re: Is this for real?
I don't believe a woman has a right to murder her child, just because she wants to, or can.
Sorry. |

Sorry. It would be boring if everyone thought the same thing. :) |

Illegal in WA too unless certain criteria are fulfilled. I don't disagree with that. While I do believe in a woman's right to choice I do not agree with a woman's choice to use abortion as a form of birth control. Having limits and restrictions (IMO) on abortion does not take anything away from a woman who needs one.

What if the pregnancy was due to a rape? At the end of the day it's the Dr who makes the decision if the termination is carried out and they have the option to say no.
Jesus christ that is barbaric. |
