I see Oxleys (now Drift) has sunk and the pontoon with all the tables and chairs has floated away. What a shame, it was a bit of a Brisbane landmark and the food was good in the olden days (haven't been there for a long time).

They reckon The Island (the Party Boat) is at risk too ... that's a big chunk of hardware loose if it breaks free.

Let the answering machine take it ... make sure the message is just the sound of some rushing water.

Sky News has a lot to answer for. I really wish the rellies would stop watching it. It's an entertainment channel (i.e. disaster porn) not a news channel.

I like transformers, I had one of those as a kid.

(edit) "Suncorp Stadium On Fire" ... Disaster Porn indeed.

agree. Even on the Aussie channels, the way some of those presenters are spruiking all of the 'amazing' footage with big enthusiastic grins on their faces is giving me the absolute shits.

It's a tragic, awful disaster FFS, with peoples lives being horrendously affected.

The media is a double edged sword. It provides some amazingly almost instantaneous communications, but it does also lend itself to incredibly unnecessary voyeuristic tendencies at the same time.

I keep thinking of the interview from this morning with the very emotional guy who had tried to help a woman and her two sons from a car in Towoomba during the flash flood. He managed to get one boy to safety and tried and tried to get back to get the mother and other son out, but the waters came up so fast, their whole car was flipped and swept away.
He was clearly very upset and in need to share the story to help get some relief but the bloody reporter seemed to have a real lack of empathy, just wanting to move on to the next report....

The nightmares and 'what ifs' that so many people will have to live with for years to come after all this shit ends....it's horrible.

"And how does that make you feel" -live therapy in front of the nation.

yea, thats what really shits me ! I don't understand how these people don't explode with a "HOW DO YOU BLOODY WELL THINK IT MAKES ME FEEL !!". More than likely it's because they are still reeling and in shock.

Some of them are polite and answer but give the presenter a look like they are trying to make them spontaneously combust. There's the misery porn too, "this family has been effected by numerous tragedies in the last number of years with the following morbid details", more favoured by the print media.

Reminds me of Dave McSavage and Talk to Joe, although our pommie peers might not get this...
