Providing no big boys wade in and it's strictly a local or proxy conflict, that war isn't going to last long.

Perhaps I'm missing something but what's that got to do with flying through Dubai?

If they get into the type of shooting war that many people have been assuming will happen for ages, its likely that Dubai will be in the middle of a war zone. A reasonable likelihood that Iran would lob at least some stuff towards Dubai, on principle.

So your hub for the whole of Europe takes a hit and can't function for a few months...

Umm, you have very poor geography knowledge. Dubai is literally across from Iran right near the strait of Hormuz! It is right next door to Iran!

Also, have you never heard or missiles? An airport, especially a hub one is a primary target during war.

Syria is complicated. It has a lot of western links and also Tartus which makes things interesting!

Syria hasn't got any oil or nukes. Thus they can kill each other with impunity.

Israel has a major downer on Iran having nukes, thus eventually something will have to give. It's not just me that's suggested that in the run up to the US elections israel have an opportunity to attack without US response.

And this is just one of the ways that general area can turning into a SHTF situation.

I would be a little surprised if they bomb Bushehr before the election. They will have to fly over Jordan, Saudi, Iraq and Kuwait or alternatively they might just go through Jordan and Iraq but it's a longer flight. Don't forget who controls Iraqi airspace.
