This and what Beoz said is interesting, but I'm not sure I would trade the superior customer service for extra TV time to be honest. I usually just read paperbacks anyway, or sleep, sleep, and more sleep. Also, Changi is a nice place to stop off.

i had the unfortunate experience of flying BA from gatwick to bermuda years ago as there was no choice. much prefer EK. but gotta say changi is way much better than dxb.

Will via LA become a more attractive proposition because of this ?

Easy as pie...I think it lacks some of the more unusual features that SIN has though like the cactus garden, swimming pool, cinema etc. It's got a more open, light feel about it though.

I dont mind HK, it is clean functional and spacious - but it is much more 'open' than Changi, so harder to find a corner to curl up and relax in.
If you really hate DBX, fear the reputation that LAX has and want a change is Dallas an option? QF fly direct to Dallas and I'm sure there are options from there to London? (I cant comment on whether FortWorth is a pleasant place to transit or not)

The girls are better on SIA. Then again Qantas doesn't give anyone competition.

The problem with transiting anywhere in the US is that you have to clear immigration AND customs / security. This includes collecting your bags and then handing them back to customs. Nothing pleasant about that...and you can barely even call it a transit! This came in after 9/11 and still exists...the 9/11 flights were all domestic flights of course.
