Accepted racism IMO.
Brits aren't a race. When we start to get as much abuse and kickings for being British as most non-white immigrants do, we can whine. Otherwise, we'd do well to zip it. Drink a cup of gravel, as we like to say here.

racism is not the same as xenophobia.

i think xenophobia is the more appropriate terminology.

I obviously didn't see the show but I didnt really need to, it would have just been 30 minutes of tired old cliches trotted out to entertain the brainless morons that would also watch ACA. Australia needs to grow up, get rid of the huge chip on its shoulder and move on. Many people don't like Australia, get over it.

We said the same ref staying for 2 yrs or proving exceptional circumstances. Terrible examples used, very embarrassing.

I'd wager that the majority of people watching would have been expats. I doubt if the average Aus viewer would have been that interested to tell you the truth. There were far better shows on at that time, I think it was scheduled around the time of Masterchef.

The Pom factor is very very low on the average Aussies radar these days, totally different to 30-40 years back... far more pertinent factors grab their attention these days.

Got to admit the London Olympics will put Poms back on the radar for a while... but it will pass quickly... especially after Aus gets trounced this time around.

No we didn't watch it - we were at the movies watching Aussie hunk Chris Hemsworth as the Huntsman - far hotter viewing.

I think a certain sector of the Aussie population would lap it up, reinforce a few stale old cliches and give them something to laugh about over their VB. I would have thought it would be the expats that would avoid it.

I really wouldn't worry about this too much after all Ch 10 showed "The Shire" last night. Didn't see it myself though there were some wicked comments via twitter.
Peter Hellier "Six boat loads of asylum seekers turned back to Indonesia last night, thanks to The Shire"
or "I miss quality documentary programs like being Lara Bingle"

I watched The Shire, the two rubber lipped girls were hilarious, 'what would you rather have - looks or brains?' - well they dont fill either category so not sure why they asked. Seriously, how much botox can you have in your lips - aiming to get her lips to touch her nose?

They must have been pretending to be simple, surely they must have done - it was scripted surely?

Shuut up..... Now where have I seen a show like The Shire... Although I've got to admit the Aus one is probably the worst... I've only seen extracts (I nearly called them highlights lol) and based on that... It makes all those other reality shows look like Grammy winners.
