I want to rent, at least for the first few years, until I know I'm settled and that I'm staying put.
Renting seems to be much more affordable over there, than it is here. I'll either be wanting a 1 bed city apartment bachelor pad, or a 2 bed in the 'burbs with a garage somewhere. Not sure yet. |

I've never been a fan of suburbs, as in Sydney the taxi drivers are useless (compared with other big cities, e.g. London) and public transport for late-night is just a pain. You can rent a furnished new 1-bed apartment in the centre of sydney (with pool, gym, etc - which doesn't cost you any extra) for around $500-$550 a week. If you want to surf in the mornings its not ideal, but at least you're close to work Mon-Fri. |

I was day dreaming about ozz today. I got my skilled independant visa then i went over for a month to get it verified and at the same time done a little reccie. I came back and sold my flat then went over with no job...and then my boss at work shouts 'Paul are you going to do any work today' then i snapped out my dream. Ahhhh it was a nice dream :thumbsup: |

You def can get a flat for 250k pounds (depending on where you buy, what sort of facilities eg communal pool and gym, etc). E.g. for a few years old development 1-bed apartment with pool and gym in the city centre you'll pay around $450,000-$500,000 (no view though). If you go out a few suburbs (to a few of the more up-and-coming ones) you'll typically get a 2bed for around the same price.
Interest rates have been on the up here for a few years (I think the typical mortgage rate is ~9% now) so renting suits me better. :) Think it will be a 1 bedroom unit for me :huh: |
