Hey everyone, not been on for a while but determined to go to the next meet up - is there one on this week. I just don't know how to find them on here. I have had a friend over from the UK and so had a great time the past couple of weeks, been here for about 3 months now and starting to feel slightly homesick... be good to get out there and get meeting new people especially now Christmas is all over with and life can get back to normal... can anyone tell me how to find where the meet ups are located on here... thanks nicola

Hi - yeah it does get a little tricky at times on the people/home sick front eh.

Drinks are every thursday. Posted the page below, but in general just look out for a msg via main Australia page - Meet-ups In Australia - then "Sydney CBD Thursday" or sometging like that in a tues/weds. Prob see you there. J

I'm living with my sis at the moment started out in mornington which is beautiful but just moved to a little place called Tyabb about 15 Ks from mornington. Mornington isquite expensive for property but there are some reasonable areas around I've seen a few rentals at $200 to $250 per week from frankston right down the penninsula so not really too bad and you'd probably get more for your money than in Melbourne itself and it's cheap and easy to get up to the city itself ( 2 trains from where I am and costs about $10.50 for a days travel card).
so are you thinking of coming over for a recce sometime or making the move blind?

hi paul (the newbie in me thought that beachum was your username but i see that's not the case today!) Thanks for the info... my brother went to that area and has told me how beautiful it is so i guess that's why i have it in my head.. I was gonna sell my flat, leave my job and go blind but even i realise that's a bit of a huge risk so Im now planning on comin out in july for 4 wks.. i know the weather won't be great but it's the only time i can go since i'm a teacher. what visa are you on? I need to get the skilled independant, can't remember the numbers but i'm still peed off at the fact it costs me the same as a fam. of 4! Everyone keeps asking me why not sydney or melbourne or perth etc.. but Im trying to steer clear of these cities due to their cost and plus, not that i've been but is sydney not up there with london in terms of cost.. busyness etc.. ? I'll visit sydney tho for sure.. my month of travelling may change my mind and I could choose somewhere in a totally different part of the country.

unless your job involves working in the city and being a teacher there's no reason you'd have to then I cn't see any benefit of living in the city I think the people who ask that question seem to beleive aus contains 5 cities and nothing mch else. I'm on a skilled independant pr visa, and good luck with your app.

I've gone and got a new job :D

Will be going down to Tahmoor near Wollongong for a week/fortnights trial in the next few weeks to meet the team at the mine and see if I'm suitable. If so I'll be based down there for the next 6 months.

I'm so damn happy to finally get the chance to do some mining!

I too will be having my last day on 12th Feb, leaving do on 14th and flying out on 22nd... I'm sure I'll end up drunk and blubbering at some point :D The sadness like yourself keeps kicking in. Its lovely to have so much appreciation for everyone, then on the other hand, feeling so gutted knowing you'll be leaving parents and good friends.

Thanks! just had a week off work, had a mate over from the UK, ofcourse its the hottest week for 70 years etc...beyond scorchio:curse: but still we made the most of it and went to the Big Day Out in 41c!

I need some help people... trying to find accomodation in the Tahmoor/Bargo area and failing miserably... only found a bunch of 3-4bedroom houses without furniture so far :(

I really want the job but it looks like I'm gonna have to leave newcastle completely which I don't really want to do. Ah well...
